Mustangs fly past Eagles

The H eppner M ustangs
ju m p ed out to a 21 -0 lead in
the first quarter and flew past
the Wahtonka Eagles 59-6 on
Friday, Oct. 3 in The Dalles in
C olum bia Basin Conference
play. The Mustangs improved
to 3 and 0 in the CBC and 5
and 0 overall. The M ustangs
will be at Weston-McEwen on
T hursday, O ct. 9 in a key
league game.
The Mustangs forced
a punt on W ahtonka’s first
possession taking over at their
own 45-yard line. On the first
play o f scrim m ag e, K yler
Lovgren broke through the line
a n d rac e d 55 y a rd s fo r a
touchdow n. His extra point
kick was good to m ake it 7-0
early in the first quarter.
T h e E a g le s d ro v e
inside the M ustangs 25-yard
line on their next possession,
but fum bled, allow ing Zach
Skaggs to recover it at the 21-
yard line. Cody Walton ran for
20 yards, Tyler B oyer seven
and W alton 15 m ore, but a
fumble was recovered by the
Eagles at their ow n 37-yard
line.
The Eagles lost nine
yards in three plays forcing a
punt that Lovgren took in at
his own forty-five and picking
up some good blocking went
untouched to the end zone for
a 5 5 - y a r d r e tu r n fo r a
to u ch d o w n . H is kick w as
good to m ake it 14-0.
O n the Eagles next
possession, Justin B otefuhr
picked o ff an Eagle pass at
m idfield and returned it 50
yards for a touchdow n and
L ovgren’s kick m ade it 21 -0
w ith 2 :17 left in the first
quarter.

Lovgren threw to Seitz for the
two-point conversion to make
it 29-0.

for 22 yards then 14 yards and
a touchdown. Lovgren's kick

for a 53-yard touchdow n and
Lovgren’s kick made it 43-0.
The

defense forced another punt
and they quickly scored again
as Lovgren ran for 10 yards
and B otefuhr took in a pass
from VanCleave and raced 6 1
yards for a touchdown. Casey
M aben ran in the tw o-point
conversion to m ake it 51-0
m idw ay th rough the third
quarter.
On the Eagles next
possession, Aaron Delveaux
c a u se d and re c o v e re d a
fum ble at the W ahtonka 36-
yard line. Matt Kenny ran for
nine, Delveaux picked up nine
m ore, and K enny picked up
three more before VanCleave
hit Kory Paullus for a 16-yard
touchdow n. D elveaux ran in
the tw o-point conversion to
m ake it 59-0 with 3:30 left in
the third quarter.

touchdown with 1:17 left in the
game.

VanCleave completed
eight o f 13 passes with no
interceptions and 209 yards
and four touchdowns. Boteluhr
caught four passes for 114
yards and tw o touchdow ns,

passes for 28 yards.
Lovgren picked up
83 yards on just three carries,
with Boyer rushing six times for
42 yards.
The Mustangs totaled
488 yards for the game while
giving up just 137 to the Eagles
with 83 o f those coming in the
second half.
The defense was led
by B oyer w ith 19 defensive
points, with Skaggs getting 17
points and BotefUhr totaling 16
points. Brian Sm ith had 11
points and Mikel Britt had 10
points.

lifted. "Though the recent rain
and cooler temperatures have
a llo w e d us to ease up on
restrictions, there is still the
potential for hum an-caused
wildfires,” warns Robertson.

extrem ely careful w ith their
campfires, cooking fires, and
w ood sto v e s. “ C a m p fire s
should be kept small, attended
at all tim es and com pletely
extinguished before leaving the
area,” said Robertson.
