L e x i ’s f a v o r ite experience this year w as at Elgin. “They had a really good ro d e o -a n a w e so m e ro d eo , and the parade was nice,” says Lexi. “A fterw ard, we stayed and w atched the rodeo and talked to people. E veryone w a s r e a lly n i c e .” “ T h e C hristm as parade w as fun, to o ,” she adds. Like Princess Megan, Princess Lexi was brought up in rodeo. H er grandfather, the late Larrie Knaggs, was a team roper, rodeo announcer and h er m entor, not to m ention “one o f the g reatest guys on earth,” says Lexi. H er uncle, K ent K naggs, a team roper, an d his w ife, C harlene, o f M onroe are active in rodeo and help coach Lexi w hen needed. L e x i’s dad, K evin Kennedy, is a m em ber o f the fair b o ard and “ practically everyone is in the fair book, except m e,” laughs her step- mom, T rade. Princess Lexi w as a pennant bearer on the 2002 court. D uring the M orrow County Fair and O TPR, Lexi will be riding her 14-year-old Q uarterhorse sorrel, Jacki, a “dependable, serious” horse that likes kids. Lexi also has a d a c h s h u n d - t e r r ie r m ix , Sunshine, and likes to ride four-wheelers, but admits that h e r w o r ld “ p r e tty m u c h revolves around horses”. B e s id e s a ll h e r a c tiv itie s, Lexi a lso holds d o w n a jo b at B o a rd m a n P h a rm a c y an d H a rd w a re. After high school she plans to a tte n d E a s te r n O r e g o n U niversity at L aG rande to som eday becom e a special education teacher. L ex i’s favorite court outfit includes oatmeal colored W rangler Riatas w ith a royal blue shirt with white lettering that says OTPR on one sleeve and M C Fair 2003 on the other and also includes the p r in c e s s e s ’ n a m e s on the pocket. The outfit is accented by a w hite scarf, and the hat, c h a p s, b o o ts a n d o a tm e al colored gauntlet gloves. “ I ’d lik e to se e e v e ry o n e at o u r tw o p ro rodeos Friday and Saturday, as w ell as our dance Friday night,” says Lexi. The Oregon T ra il P ro R o d e o ’s tw o perform ances will be Friday, A u g u st 15, at 7 p.m . and Saturday, A ugust 16, at 1:15 p.m. The Rodeo Dance will be from 9 p.m . to m idnight on Friday, August 15, with “music on the g rass” p rovided by “Thunder Rose.” So far this year, the 2 0 0 3 p r in c e s s e s h a v e represented M orrow County v e ry w e ll, a c c u m u la tin g num erous first place awards. T h e y to o k second out o f 36 entries at the P rin e v ille C ro o k e d R iv e r R o u ndup P arad e a n d also attended events at A rlington, Athena and Elgin. They helped out at the Boardman Cham ber dinner, the Heppner Chamber Tow n and Country Banquet, the M orrow C ounty G rain G ro w e rs c u s to m e r appreciation breakfast, the Irrigon W atermelon Festival, the C elebrate H eppner pie auction and were meeters and greeters at the Irrigon M usic in the Park. Still on tap are the H erm iston Fair, Fossil, the M o rro w C o u n ty F air and R odeo and the W alla W alla Labor Day event. The girls will then round out their reign by participating in both Pendleton R ound-U p parades. Adopt a Teacher foundation hosts mini carnival The A dopt A Teacher foundation w ill be in charge o f the m ini carnival this year, W ednesday, Aug. 13, from 1-4 p.m . during the M orrow County Fair. This year the carnival will host a myriad ofbooths. Some o f these booths will consist o f Plinko, Face Painting, a Basketball Hoop shoot, Bean Bag Toss, Ring Toss, a Duck Pond, Penny Pitching, M ilk Bottle Toss, Floating G lass Bowls, Dart Toss, and more. All proceeds will go directly to the Adopt A Teacher program to help fund a teacher. Com e, bring the whole family and enjoy som e good old-fashioned fun and help support your teachers in the process. Tillamook Creamery hosts Ice Cream Social O nce again the T illam ook C ream ery will sponsor an Ice Cream Social. O n Thursday, Aug. 14, at 3 p.m., kids o f all ages can enjoy the delicious ice cream. They have donated extra this year, so hopefully we w o n ’t run out. Also, the whole week o f fair they will participate by having an informational booth, so stop by and say hi.
