4-H Snack Shack helps fund
4-H council
Fair goes enjoy a cold drink and snacks at last year’s 4-H Fair Snack
Shack.
The 4-H Snack Shack
produces the m ajor source o f
in c o m e f o r th e M o rr o w
County 4-H Leaders Council.
The council uses this incom e
to provide such program s as
4 -H c a m p , 4 -H T e e n
L e a d e r s h ip R e tr e a t, a n d
m aterials for all 4-H program
areas. T he L eaders C ouncil
also funds m any fair aw ards.
All 4-H members benefit from
the proceeds that are earned
by the Snack Shack.
M a n y 4 -H le a d e rs
help in the Snack Shack at fair.
T hey do this b ecau se they
understand how important the
p r o c e e d s a re to th e 4 -H
p r o g r a m . H o w e v e r , th e
leaders are so busy at fair it is
not rig h t to ask them to take
care o f their 4-H club and then
work even longer in the Snack
Shack.
Parents o f 4-H m em bers,
this is an opportunity for you
to help your children and your
ch ild ’s 4-H leader. Volunteer
to help in the Snack Shack.

Fair encourages attendees to keep clean
It turns out M om was
really right. W ashing your
hands after touching anim als,
especially the barnyard type,
is essential in preventing the
spread o f b acterial diseases
such a s E . coli.
The M orrow County Fair
is stepping up its efforts this
year to encourage all fairgoers
to w ash th eir hands p rio r to
eating the ham b u rg ers and
fries, etc., especially if those
hands have been petting the 4-
H anim als, or any other.

quick, easy and very effective
in preventing m any bacterial
diseases, especially E. co li,”
said F a ir S e c re ta ry R enee
Yocom . “ W e plan to rem ind
ou r cu sto m ers often to w ash
their hands and to refrain from
eating w hile in the livestock
bams (Wilkinson Arena, etc.),”
she continued. Also children’s
toys and accessories should be
stored aw ay w hile in these
areas.
N u m e ro u s s ig n s
encouraging hand washing will
be placed in strategic areas
around the bams, especially at
entrances and exits. Two hand
w ashing stations will also be
available; one by the food area
a n d a n o th e r o u ts id e th e
W ilkinson arena. A table with
information about E. coli will
be in the W ilkinson Arena.
The M orrow County
F a ir w ants all fairg o ers to
enjoy the fair, so that’s why we
are asking everyone to help
prevent bacterial diseases by
w a sh in g y o u r h a n d s a fte r
p etting anim als and before
eating. D iseases such as E.
coli can be stopped in their
tracks by simply washing your
hands w ith soap and water.
So please rem em ber
to w ash up at the M orrow
C ounty Fair A ugust 13-17,
2003.
4-H continues strong programs
M orrow C ounty 4-H has
a total o f 395 m em bers and
69 leaders participating in the
4 -H y o u th d e v e lo p m e n t
program. There are 118 youth
enrolled in Hom e Economics
and Expressive Arts projects
a n d 30 in th e 4-H H orse
p r o g r a m . T h e liv e s to c k
program has a total o f 195
youth enrolled in large animal
p ro je c ts a n d 13 in sm all
anim al. In the N orth end,
there are 118 youth enrolled
in the Soccer Club, nine in the
Folkloric D ance C lub, eight
enrolled in the Sew ing Club
and eight in the C o m p u ter
Club.
M any 4-H m em bers
are in m ore than one club.

p ro ject. S everal m em b ers
crossover in curriculum areas.
“We encourage 4-H members
to try new projects in different
a reas,” said Bill B roderick,
O SU Extension agent.
B roderick added that

presentations, pre-fair clinics,
