By Debbie Harper Six Cub Scouts from the Bear den got a first-hand chance to see how the legal system w orks w hen they serv ed asjurors in a mock trial Friday, April 4. TTie scouts, aged nine and 10, h e a rd e v id e n c e presented by District Attorney David C. Allen and the defense attorney, played by Deputy District Attorney Elizabeth B allard . The d e fe n d a n t, “ B o b ” , w as p la y e d by M orrow County S h eriff’s Deputy Rory Bolter. Justice Court Judge Charlotte Gray was the presiding judge. “ Bob" was charged with criminal mischief and theft o f a four-wheeler. A victim and an investigating officer testified and photos, fingerprints and other evidence were presented just like in a real trial. The audience will be given the o p p o rtu n ity to su b m it questions prior to the forum, either at the door, or by giving them to the Heppner Chamber o f Com m erce.
