Mustang girls lose to Pirates

Friday, D ec. 13. The M ustangs
w ill try to get back on track in
th e S o u th M o rro w C o u n ty
Tournament in Heppner against
lone, Pendleton JV and Klickitat
on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 20-
21 .
T he M ustangs trailed
36-16 at halftime but played a lot
better in the second h alf getting
five points each from Lacey
Matteson and Jesse Kempas and
a 3-pointer from Stefanie Hanson
in outscoring the Pirates 14-10
in the third quarter. Matteson had
five more points in the fourth as
the Mustangs played the Pirates
even but couldn’t overcom e the
big first half deficit.

A huge fourth quarter led
the H eppner M ustang JV boys
to a 53-32 w in over the Mac-H i
Pioneers in Milton-Freewater on
Saturday, Dec. 14. The Mustang
JV s (4 -0 ) will be at lo n e on
Thursday, Dec. 19 with the girls'
gam e starting at 5:30 p.m.
Brandon Seitz scored six
points in the first quarter as the
Mustangs took an 11 -6 lead after one
and added seven more in the second
as they extended their lead to 23-14
at halftime.
Kyler Lovgren scored four
points in the third but the Pioneers
narrowed the lead to 33-28 going into
the fourth. The Mustangs then went
on a run to put the game away getting
seven points from Seitz, four each
from Josh Gutierrez and Eric Torres
and a 3-pointer from Tyler Boyer in

outscoring the Pioneers 20-4 in the
fourth to take the win.
Seitz finished with 22 points
with Boyer adding seven and Torres
six.

lead after one, getting four points
from Dan Basile and still led by one a
21 -20 at the half, getting four points
from Matthew VanCleave.
VanCleave and Mikel Britt
each scored four points in the third
but the Pioneers took a 34-29 lead
after three and the Mustangs battled
back to within three with 50 seconds
left but that was as close as they
would get as they saw their record
fall to 2-1 on the year.
