Courthouse tree cut down, new memorial ODOT to hold

W ednesday, Nov. 27,
one o f the big trees by the court
house had to be cut down due to
the fact that many parts o f it where
dead and it could not be saved.
T he tree, a lm o st 100
years old, is in old photographs
o f the C ourthouse shortly after its
construction. “ M any o f us were
sad to see it go,” said A ndrea
D enton, personnel director for
the County at the Courthouse.
O n c e th e s tu m p is
r e m o v e d , th e C e n te n n ia l
com m ittee would like to plant a
new tree in its place and include
a plaque com m em orating 100
years since the flood. Pieces o f
the tree where also preserved and
o n a s u g g e s tio n fro m Ed
S tr u th e r s , it is h o p e d th a t
benches
can
be
m ad e
commemorating the tree.

Program (STIP). The Northeast
A re a
C o m m is s io n
on
T ransportation (N EA CT) and
the Southeast Area Commission
on Transportation (SEACT) will
host these meetings.
A rea C om m issions on
T r a n s p o r ta tio n (A C T s) are
advisory bodies charted under
a u th o r i ty o f th e O re g o n
T ra n sp o rta tio n C o m m issio n
( O T C ). T h e N E A C T a n d
SEA CT are expected to address
all aspects o f transportation with
p rim a ry fo c u s on the s ta te
transportation system.

been scheduled for Thursday,
Dec. 12 at 6:30 p.m. The ACTs
will host the m eeting. O regon
D epartm ent o f Transportation
(O D O T ) w ill m ak e a b r ie f
presentation regarding the 2004-
2007 STIP. The meeting will be
telecast from Eastern O regon
University, in La Grande. Seven
rem ote locations in Baker City,
B um s, B oardm an, Enterprise,
John Day, Ontario and Pendleton
will be on-line to participate in the
m e e tin g .

perform holiday concert

Saturday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. at the
Catholic Parish Hall in Heppner.
The sym phony w ill perform
sev eral m ed ley s o f favorite
C hristm as carols including "A
B ach
C h r i s t m a s ,”
an
arrangement o f overlapping Bach
m inuets and C hristm as m usic.
They will also play "F id d ler's
Day" by Ralph Matesky, and an
arrangem ent o f “ M arch from
C arm en" by Bizet. The singers
will perform C hristm as carols
including “Still, Still. Still,” "What
Child is This?” and “ Fum, Fum,
Fum." The symphony and singers
w ill w rap up the concert w ith a
combined performance o f “Jesu,
Joy o f M an's D esiring" by J.S.
Bach, arranged by M erle Isaac.
Follow ing the concert,
the performers and audience w ill
be e n c o u r a g e d to a tte n d
"Christmas at the Courthouse" at
the Morrow County Courthouse.
