The Heppner Mustang
JV football team raced out to a
28-0 lead in the first quarter to run
past the visiting lone Cardinals,
42-12, in an eight-man game on
M onday, Sept. 30. The win
improves the Mustangs’ record to
3 and 0 on the year. The
Mustangs will host the Hermiston
Frosh on a Monday, Oct. 7, at 6
p.m.
The Mustangs’ first score
came on a Brandon Seitz seven-
yard pass from M atthew
VanCleave that that was set up
by a 20-yard by Cody Walton.
W alton ran in the tw o-point
conversion to make it 8-0.
A fumbled snap on fourth
down by the Cardinals punter
gave the Mustangs the ball again
deep in lone territory. Aaron
Delveaux ran for 12 yards and
Walton took it in from nine yards
out with Delveaux running in the
conversion to make it 16-0.
The Mustangs again held
on defense but a long punt pinned
them back at their own five-yard
line. Walton broke free fora long
touchdown but it was called back
by a penalty. On the next play
Delveaux took it around and ran
95 yards for the touchdown. The
conversion try was no good but
the Mustangs led 22-0 with 2:30
left in the first quarter.
Peter Geer recovered a
fumble on the ensuing kick-off and
on the first play Eric Torrez
scored on a 50-yard run and after
the conversion failed the
Mustangs led 28-0.
The Cardinals got on the
board on a three-yard run just
before halftime, to make it 28-6
at the break.
The Cardinals closed to
within 28-12 midway through the
third, but the Mustangs came back
with a touchdown of their own as
VanCleave hit Seitz for a 20-yard
gain to set up a 56-yard
touchdown run by Walton to make
it 34-12 after three quarters.
The M ustangs scored
their final touchdown in the fourth
quarter on a Delveaux 43-yard
run. Josh Lankford hit Seitz for
