REDUCTION
The Heppner Ranger District
is conducting an Environmental
Assessment on the proposed Ca­
ble Rehab fuels reduction project.
All nine units are in Morrow
County, Oregon located at T. 4
S.. R. 28 E„ Sections 13&24; T.
4 S.. R. 29 E„ Sections 18-19; T.
5 s.. R. 28 E„ Sections 13-14.23-
24. 28-29; T. 5 S.. R. 29 E„ Sec­
tions 29 & 32; and T. 6 S., R. 29
E„ Section 7, Willamette Merid­
ian surveyed.
The District proposes to re­
duce the fire danger by eliminat­
ing much of the standing dead
and down woody material, re­
duce the levels of noncommercial
suppressed understory and jack­
pot bum and underbum the sites
to further reduce the fire hazard
and prepare the sites for natural,
or artificial regeneration.

The Morrow County Sheriff’s
Office (MCSO) reports handling
the following business:
MCSO deputy cited Carmel
M. Foster, 29, for Failure to
Provide Proof of Insurance.
-MCSO received a report of
a fire on Highway 74; mutual aid
was requested from the
Boardman Fire Dept.
-MCSO, Umatilla Electric
received a report from a work
crew supervisor on Tower Road
that the crew broke the support
cable on a power pole had been
burnt; the pole was now very
unstable.
-MCSO received a report
from a caller in Irrigon that a
group of juveniles were in front
o f her house y e llin g and it
appeared they were going to fight.
-M CSO deputy cited a
juvenile female for Disorderly
Conduct.
-MCSO deputies arrested
C olleen T hom pson, 21, for
M enacing
(x 3 )/D isorderly
Conduct. She was lodged at the
Umatilla County Jail.
-MCSO, Oregon State Police
received a report from a caller in
Irrigon of juveniles driving ATVs.
Officers were unable to locate the
ATVs.
-MCSO received a report
from a caller in Irrigon that her
neighbor who was playing loud
music had passed out on a couch,
there was a dog barking in his
yard and there was also a child
unattended inside the house.
Richard Leroy Wiese, 29, was
cited for Child Neglect II.
-MCSO received a report
from a caller in Lexington that his
neighbor’s dog was barking and
he couldn’t get to sleep.
-MCSO, Oregon State Police
received a report of a $35 drive-
off from the Boardman 76 station.
-MCSO, Irrigon ambulance
received a report from a caller in
Irrigon that he was suffering from
chemical burns in both eyes and
couldn’t see. He further stated
that he was home alone with his
children and that he needed to
contact his m other-in-law to
watch the children. The patient
was transported to Good Shepherd
Medical Center in Hermiston.
-MCSO, Boardman Police
Dept, received a report of loud
music in Boardman.
-MCSO received a report
from a caller that her boyfriend
had not been heard from in two
weeks.
Aug. I: -MCSO received
two reports of suspicious persons
and vehicles in an area trying to
sell fruits and vegetables. The
persons were advised to leave the
area.
-MCSO received a request
for a deputy contact from Lex­
ington Tow n Hall regarding vehi­
cles driv ing through town too fast.
-MCSO received a report to
a deputy from the Shell station in
Lexington about trucks with in­
sufficient restraints on large loads
causing them to loose parts of the
loads in the road.
-MCSO received a request
for a deputy contact in Heppner
regarding Forest Service vehicles
running stop signs.
-MCSO received a requegt
for a deputy contact in Heppner
regarding a bike found in some
bushes.
-MCSO received a report that
Frank David Battaglia, 23, was
arrested on Irrigon Justice Court
warrants for Failure to Appear/
DUII and Failure to Pay Fine/
Resisting Arrest. He was lodged
at the Umatilla County Jail, with
$2691 bail.
-MCSO, Irrigon Fire Dept,
received a report o f a Fire in
Irrigon.
-MCSO received a request
for a deputy contact in Boardman
regarding property the caller gave
to people; the people moved and
left the property.
-MCSO, Boardman Police
Dept, received a report from a
caller that her brother’s mini-bike
was stolen last night and that three
juvenile males knocked on her
door and adv ised her that they
knew the location of the bike.
-MCSO. Oregon State Police
received a report from a caller
that a motor home pulling a vehi­
cle was speeding and almost ran
her off the road.
"Smoking doesn’t work
in Oregon.”
I remember walking out of our conference room and
my eyes were literally stinging. My boss smoked, so
everybody felt they had a right to light up whenever
they felt like it. That was before the Oregon Smokefree
Workplace Law.
Because now smoking doesn't work in Oregon. And
I'm breathing a lot easier.
