Fair open class winners announced

There were a lot o f
winners this year at the fair.
In the Oregon Best
Contest Meredith Walters won
first place for her Shrimp Salad
Recipe and for her Blueberry
Cupcakes. Sarah Carlson and
Jane Dean won second and third,
respectively for their cupcakes
also. The winners for Bob's Best
Home Bake Bread were Bonnie
Wenberg, first, and Nancy Jepsen,
second. Tina Palmer won for her
com muffins in Santiam's Super
Muffins Com Recipe.
One of the most popular
Oregon Best Contests is the
W atermelon Seed Spitting
Contest. In the Seven and Under
category, Macy Gibbs spit 12' 3";
Brandon Davis won the 8-15 year
olds with a distance of 20'; Sue
Gibbs won the women’s division
with 19' and Mario Magan won
the men’s division with 26'.
The winners o f the
Sweepstakes this year received
a $25 gift certificate from The
Morrow County Fair Board. In the
Food Department, Laura Sager,
from Lexington, won for her rolls
with honey. Jane Pope, o f
Boardman, won photography for
her Cathedral Rock photo. Judy
Buschke, of Heppner, won Art for
her fall scene Painting with an elk.
She also won Anne’s Favorite for
this painting. In Canning, Mary
West, of Heppner, had a very
unique entry of Dandelion Jelly.
Clothing went to Meghan Unruh,
of Heppner, for a doll outfit she
sewed. David Estes, of Irrigon,
did Needlework of a horse with
stage picture. Judy Yoder, of
Boardman, won quilts for a
Queens Quilt.
Dorothy Green, o f
Heppner, grew pears this year to
win Fruits and Rebecca Jepsen,
o f Heppner, grew carrots in
Vegetables. In Flowers, Terry
Tallman, of Boardman, had a
gorgeous Cocks Comb flower. In
the three kids departments, Skyler
Hawks, Evan Unruh, and Mike
Angel, all o f Heppner, won.

Evan
had
a
C utpaper
Construction picture and Mike
had a ceramic of a Mountain Man.
All these winners will have their
names and a picture of the item
put in the curio cabinet by the Fair
Office for people to see.
The P eople's Choice
Award in Art was won by Robert
Harrison, and Molly Day won the
Morrow County Creative Arts
Aw ard for the most ribbons in that
department.
Kirsten Harrison won
people’s Choice in Photography.
The Best Overall Sweepstakes in
the Community Booths went to
Morrow County Courthouse
Centennial. They had a detailed
model of the courthouse.
Heppner Garden Club’s
awards for Best Horticulture and
most blue ribbons went to Terry
Tallman, o f Boardman. Best
Arrangement and The Jane
Rawlins Memorial went to Pam
Worden, of Heppner.
There were a lot of Open
Class animals, from large to small.
There were over 30 Poultry
entries and 18 Rabbits this year.
In Beef the Champion Female
was Claire Grieb’s three-year-old
cow. While Logan Grieb won
reserve with his two year old
cow. N atalie Rauch won
Champion in Bred Yearling Heifer
(shorthorn). Devin Robinson got
Champion for Jr. Bred Yearling
Heifer (polled). In Swine Thomas
Holland and Kelly Lieb received
Grand Champion for their animals.
Thomas had a gilt and Kelly had
a market hog. Macy Gibbs won
Best of Show Chicken for her
Black A ustralorp Pullet and
Reserve for her Barred Rock
Pen. Kathy Tellechea won Best
of Show for her solid black Mini-
Rex. Pam Renfro won Reserve
for her Agouti Mini Lop.
Heppner Garden
Club holds annual
fall potluck
The Heppner Garden
Club will be meeting at St.
Patrick’s Senior Center, at 6:30
p.m., on Monday, Sept. 9. They
will be having their Annual Fall
Potluck, with the officers hosting.
The program has been
changed because o f medical
problems. Instead, there will be a
series introduction on the fall and
winter videotape classes on
gardening. Everyone is welcome
to attend.

Christman to talk
about trip to India
Sheena Christman, of
lone, will talk about her mission
trip to India on Sunday, Sept. 8,
at 10:30 a.m., at Christian Life
Center in Heppner. Sheena, 17,
traveled to India this past summer
where she spent eight weeks
working at the M ichael Job
Centre, a girls’ orphanage, in
Coimbatore, India. Sheena is the
daughter o f Carl and Kelly
Christman of lone.

Addition. A deputy was unable to
locate the dog.

wife and a 12 year old child were
swimming out to get the boat but
they were so far out he couldn’t
see them anymore. The caller

rant boat.

demeanor. He was lodged at the
Umatilla County Jail.

DUII (BAC .20), Open Contain­
er and Illegal Parking. The vehi­
cle was impounded.
-MCSO deputy cited Edigar
Morales Pineda, 29, for Disobey­
ing a Traffic Control Device (Stop
Sign).

ment. The vehicle was impound­
ed.

at the Econolodge in Boardman
for a 51 year old diabetic male
who had been ill all morning. The
patient was transported to Good
Shepherd Medical Center in
Hermiston.

Police Dept. There was also a
military ID on the keyring.
