ODFW to retain a “conservation
easement” over a portion of what
is known as the “space age in
dustrial park” or “Boeing-Board-
man tract”, a 93,000 acre state-
owned property located in Mor
row County. The entire Boeing-
Boardman tract is being sold by
the state to BAIC. As part of that
transaction, BAIC would convey
a 22,000 acre portion of that tract
(the “conservation area”) to a land
trust to be managed for wildlife.
If funds are available, that would
be done by selling fee simple title
or a permanent easement to the
land trust. O therw ise, BAIC
would convey a temporary ease
ment to the land trust. To memo
rialize the arrangements for the
management of the conservation
area, ODFW proposes to retain
a “conservation easement” over
the conservation area. The re
mainder of the Boeing-Boardman
tract will not be affected by
ODFW's conservation easement.
Oregon law (ORS 271.735) re
quires a state agency to hold a
public hearing in the local com
munity before acquiring a conser
vation easement.
Com m ents are w elcom e
from all interested parties on
whether ODFW should retain this
conservation easement. This is,
the only issue that will be ad
dressed at the hearing. A repre
sentative o f ODFW w ill be
present at the hearing to listen to
and record verbal public com
ments, accept any written public
comments and answer questions.

4-H Club met at the Hunt’s house
on April 7 to discuss the book
“Antarctica” by Peter Lerangis in
a regular 4-H meeting.
Kara Clay gave the book re
port on “Antarctica” and Miranda
Hunt, the author’s report. Aimee
Emery taught everyone a new
vocabulary word.
M em bers talked about a
community service opportunity
coming up. The small animal club.
Paws and Claws, had invited this
club to help plant flowers in the
flower boxes in downtown lone.
At the next meeting, the girls
will discuss the book “The Jour
ney Back” by Johanna Reiss.
Ail members were present,
which includes Kara Clay, Shan
non Clay, Em ily R ietm ann,
Miranda Hunt, Aimee Emery and
President Kylee Svetich.
The club’s next meeting will
be Thursday, May 9, at 4:30 at the
Hunt’s house.

and Patterns and Pans 4-H group
held a meeting.
The girls worked on their
quilts. Some of the girls got their
quilts done, so they started to
work on their outfits for fair.

her quilt top. Kendra, Megan and
Emily were in attendance.
At the April 19 meeting, the
girls finished sewing quilt tops or
putting together their quilts.

Kendra Rayburn started on her
fair project, and Emily Bergstrom
finished her jacket and helped
Kendra with her outfit. Megan
Orr was unable to attend the
meeting.

The lone City Council will
hold their regular monthly meeting
on Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at
6:00pm at lone City Hall, 385
West 2nd street. The Council will
be discussing the new school
construction, public attendance
and comments welcome.

The students had prepared for this occasion since last September.
Their teacher was Eileen McElligott. Following the Mass there was
a reception sponsored by the Altar Society. Each was also presented
with a certificate commemorating the occasion.
