Greeters welcome
families
MES team attends chess competition
Since the formation of the
Heppner Community Greeters
September 20, 1999, around 40
families have been welcomed into
our community life. In spite of
serious illnesses, deaths, and the
usual demands upon one’s life, the
volunteer G reeters, working
under the auspices o f The
Chamber o f Commerce, have
delivered donated baskets filled
with appropriate new com er
information and gifts provided by
local agencies and businesses.
“Recipients of the visit and
basket have been surprised and
pleased to receive such a
welcome and remark the visit by
two Greeters indicates a personal
interest in them,” said a group
spokesperson. “These new folks
often say Heppner is a friendly
community.”
The stated purpose o f the
Heppner Community Greeters
says: “To greet and inform
newcomers in a way that makes
them feel w elcom e and
com fortable so they gain
ownership in the community; to
acknowledge the transitional
moves between rural and town
living by our neighbors; and to
welcome the return of Heppner-
bom persons to the area and into
community life.”
