Viola Faye Ruhl, 88, o f
Lexington, died Friday, December
21, 2001, at Pioneer Memorial
Nursing Home in Heppner.
A graveside service was held
Thursday, December 27, 2001, at
the Lexington Cem etery in
Lexington.
She was bom April 30, 1913,
at Elgin, to Eugene and Mable Davis
Gray. At a young age, she moved
with her family to the Lexington
area where she attended Social Ridge
School and Lexington High School,
graduating in 1931.
On June 29, 1932, she married
Laurel "Buck" Ruhl, at Lexington.
They farmed most o f their married
life in the Social Ridge and Black
Horse Canyon areas near Lexington.
Mrs. Ruhl had worked at Murray's
Drug Store in Heppner and Del's
M arket in Lexington.
She was a member of the Rebekah
Lodge and the Lexington Grange,
was instrum ental in starting the
Pioneer Hospital Auxiliary and was
active in the organization for many
years.
She was a LAP (Literacy
Achievement Program) grandma.
She enjoyed bowling, gardening,
crafts, athletics o f all types, cats and
dogs, but mostly enjoyed her family
and grandchildren.
Survivors include sons and
daughters-in-law, Otto "Skip" and
Jean Ruhl o f Hermiston and Dick
and Lyn Ruhl of Lexington; brothers,
Memtt Gray of Heppner and Robert
Gray o f Creswell; grandchildren
Cynthia Ruhl, Laurie Ross, Tracey
Pollock, Dana Epperly and Rich
Ruhl; and six great-grandchildren.
Her husband, "Buck" and a sister,
Florence, preceded her in death.
Memorial contributions may be
made to Pioneer Memorial Nursing
Home, P.O. Box 9, Heppner, Oregon

71, o f Boardman, died Friday,
December 21, 2001, at her home.
A memorial service was to be
held later in Portland.
Mrs. Thomas was bom April 11,
1903, at St. Cloud, M innesota, to
Joseph and Bertha Kipka Crale. The
family moved to Oregon in 1938
and she attended Bonney Slope
School in Portland.
She married Jim Thomas and the
couple lived at Portland before
moving to Boardman in 1980.
Survivors include her husband,
James Thomas o f Boardman;
daughter, Patty Yankey o f Lapine;
sisters, M adeline Blomquist and
M axine Clark; brother, Leonard
"Bud" Crale, ofPortland; and several
nieces and nephews.
