planned for Monday, February
4, from 5-7 p.m. at the Milton-
Freewater Community Building,
505 Ward, Milton-Freewater.
Umatilla and Morrow
counties
elected
officials,
Chamber
of
Commerce
members, leaders of the work
force, business owners and
economic development personnel
are invited to attend.
According to a news
release, the goal of the meeting is
to
leam
what
economic
developm ent/w ork
force
resources are available, discuss
regional
problem
solving
approaches and to meet with
others involved in economic
development and work force
issues.
Guest speakers will be

economic
and
community
development regional officer,
and Bill Demestihas, executive
director

the
Oregon
Consortium and the Oregon
Workforce Alliance.

Economic group
lays out goals
The Willow Creek Valley
Economic Development Group
has spelled out its goals for the
year 2002, and they include,
among other things, continued
efforts to attract new businesses
to the area "

Those efforts will include
helping the Port of Morrow find
tenants for the South Morrow
Industrial Park; completing the
marketing plan that targets light
manufacturing companies that
may be enticed to move here;
targeting
for
recruitment
businesses in Oregon and
Washington; researching the
opportunity to purchase for
relocation a business that
provides employment and to try
and capitalize on North Morrow
County development to maximize
“spin-off' opportunities in the
area.
In the area of business
retention the group wants to work
to improve business opportunities
and
provide
educational
opportunities
to
existing
businesses in the area through the
BMCC
Small
Business
Development Center.
To help with housing the group
plans to research expansion of the
urban growth boundary and
relaxing of zoning regulations, to
encourage land development
possibilities for site-built and
manufactured housing; pave the
way for people to build and
develop overnight facilities in
South Morrow County, including
motel and bed and breakfast
opportunities, and. through the
cooperative efforts of local
commuters, market south county
housing
opportunities
to
employees of north Morrow
County and West Umatilla
County.
The group also pledged to work
on better communications with
other economic development
groups and cities in the area, start
a quarterly newsletter, issue more
press releases on the group’s
activities and monitor websites
for accuracy and timeliness.
A membership drive is also
planned for next year. The group
wishes to increase membership by
25 percent.

are $25 per year.

annual
meeting

WCVEDG is scheduled for Jan.
