Lady Cards lose to Savages, beat Cougars

Diana McElligott scored eight points,
grabbed seven rebounds and three
savage possessions, Cyndi Heagy
added five points, three rebounds,
one steal and one assist.
Natalie M cElligott scored five
points, brought down four rebounds,
led the team larceny with seven steals
and led the team with seven assists.
Salli M cElligott launched a three-
point basket for three points, grabbed
one rebound and delivered one assist.
Kristina Powell was tough on the
inside, bringing down seven
rebounds, and lead the team with
three blocked shots and grabbed four
steals.
The Cardinal wom en brought
down a total o f 30 rebounds and shot
44 percent at the free throw line.

bracket to play against Wallowa.
The Lady Cardinals led by six points
in the first half and dumped in an
additional 30 points in the second
half to seal the 52-30 victory against
the Cougars.
Amellia Peck played an
outstanding game, leading the
Cardinals with 18 points, and had
10 rebounds. Peck also swiped four
Cougar possessions and delivered
one assist. Natalie McElligott led
the team with eight assists, while
scoring 10 points, grabbing six
rebounds, three steals and blocking
two Wallowa attempts for points.
Salli McElligott scored eight points,
seized four rebounds, one steal and
handed o ff one assist.
Diana McElligott also scored eight
points, grabbed four rebounds; six
steals and passed out one assist.

Dufur jum ped out with a 10-pomt
lead in the first quarter. Cardinal
men turned up the heat to close the
lead to six by h alf time. A nearly
scoreless third quarter sealed the
C ardinal's fate.
Brad Bumght led the team score
with 14 points. Bumght also grabbed
six rebounds, four steals and three
blocked shots. Billy Gates dumped
in five points and captured two
rebounds. Freshman NickChnstman
scored four points, seized three
rebounds, delivered two assists and
nabbed one steal. Til Tullis scored
four points and apprehended one
rebound. Ashley Roberts added two
points, one rebound, four assists and
a steal to the Cardinal cause. Adam
Neiffer also added two points, two
rebounds, two steals and one assist.
Andrew Rietmann led the men on
the boards by bringing down 11

The lone Cardinal varsity women
surprised the Dufur Rangers by
handing them a 66-35 loss on
Tuesday, Dec. 4. lone jumped ahead
early in the game and kept up the
cadence to bring on the downfall
o f the Rangers.
Kristina Powell led the Lady
Cardinals on the scoreboard with
14 points, 10 rebounds, six steals,
one blocked shot and one assist. Salli
McElligott hit four o f six attempts
from the three-point territory for a
total o f twelve points. McElligott
also contributed one rebound, one
blocked shot and one steal to her
team's cause. Natalie McElligott also
dumped in 12 points, grabbed one
rebound, blocked one shot, led the
team thievery with 11 steals and
delivered seven assists.

lone varsity boys were victorious
in their first game o f the Enterprise
tournament on Dec. 7-8. Cardinal
men outscored Enterprise 67-54.
lone had a 34-25 lead at the half.
Enterprise closed to lead to within
six points by the end o f the third
quarter, but the Cardinals made 11
o f 18 attempts at the free throw line
to secure the win.
The victory o f the lone men on
Friday placed them in the
championships on Saturday, Dec.
8, to square off against Pilot Rock.
The game was tight in the first
half with lone men trailing by two.
Pilot Rock made rune o f 15 attempts
at the free throw line to hand the
C ardinals a 54-61 loss.
Brad B um ght was the leading
point producer with 22 points.
Burright also led the team with 12
rebounds, while delivering one assist
and capturing one Rocket possession.
Ashley Roberts donated 11 points,
seized seven rebounds, one steal and
passed four assists. Adam Neiffer
scored 10 points, snared nine
rebounds, handled two assists and
took over one Pilot Rock possession.
B illy Gates canned six points,
grabbed one rebound and sent off
three assists.
Andrew Rietmann scored four
points, captured five rebounds,
passed o ff one assist and acquired
one steal. Nick Christman donated
one point, one assist and led the team
thievery with two steals.
The Cardinals were 50 percent
at the charity stripe for the game.
Mustangs fall to Joseph in OT

The Heppner Mustangs dropped
a tough game in overtime at Joseph,
losing to the Eagles, 61-60, on
Friday, Dec. 8. The loss dropped
their record to 1 and 1 on the young
season. The Mustangs will next play
against Mac-Hi in lone at the South
M orrow C ounty Tournament on
Friday, Dec. 14, at 4:30 p.m.
The teams were tied at 15-15 after
one, but the Mustangs took a 33-29
halftim e lead as Brian Rust and
Kevui Drake scored five points each.
Four points each by David Norton
and Michael M cCabe helped the
Mustangs to a 48-39 lead after three,
but the Eagles rallied in the fourth
to tie it at 55-55 at the end o f
regulation.

The Heppner Mustang JV boys
won their second game o f the year
at Joseph, beating the Eagles, 59-36,
on Fnday, Dec. 7, using an 18-6 first
quarter to carry them through the
game.
Josh W inters had eight points
in the first quarter and Doug Orwick,
four in the second, as the Mustangs
took a 27-12 lead at halftime.
Kyler Lovgren had five points
in the third as Heppner increased
their lead to 38-21 after three. Bnan
Smith had seven, and Conor
Kilkenny and Justin Botefuhr had
four each in the fourth as the
M ustangs won going away.
Smith led three M ustangs in
double figures with 11 points;
Winters and Lovgren added 10 points
each. Donald Adams had seven and
Kilkenny had six points.
The JV's next game is at home
against Condon on Tuesday, Dec.
