Let it snow, let it snow, let it
snow! The children would be happy,
the merchants would be happy and
it would feel a lot like Christmas.
Do you ever consider how lucky
we are to have the goods we have
in Heppner and how long we could
survive with what is here if we had
to? Manhattan, New York, would
have just 48 hours worth o f food.
My guess is, Heppner could keep
us going longer. Let's ask Bert.
W e are very fortunate to live
where we can "do without" easier
than most because being rural trains
us for that. Most o f us wouldn't trade
quality o f life for quantity. There's
no com parison.
Have you "decked the halls"? The
chamber will again be sponsoring
the business and residential lighting
competition with judging scheduled
for Friday, Dec. 21. Anyone wishing
to be judged is asked to call the
chamber at 676-5536 to leave names
and address prior to Dec. 20.
Remember to turn on your lights.
Remember to turn in nominees
for the Town and Country awards.
"2002, The Red, White and Blue"
is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 17.
Deadline for nominations is Friday,
Dec. 21. Forms are available in the
chamber office or through Kuhn and
Spicer.
Another great evening at the Elks
is in the planning stages with tickets
to go on sale after Christm as.

We are so fortunate to have the
Elks, where volunteers go all out
to assist us year round when the area
needs a public place for annual
m eetings, dinners, St. Pat's
entertainm ent, three auctions,
m onthly m eetings, weddings,
funerals. You name it, they're there
setting up tables, cooking, cleaning,
etc. If Santa is looking for a place >
to leave a gift; how about a donation :
to the m uch needed elevator, so
everyone can attend com m unity >
events there? Local organizations
are very deserving.
An aside. It's okay to call me
numbskull; having slipped on ice
and cracked the back o f my head
on concrete, I now know where the
term originated and I now have an
excuse.
Next week, Tuesday, Dec. 18,
will be the final chamber meeting
until Jan. 8.
Thought for the week: "Reach
for the stars; you might not get them,
but you won't wind up with a handful
o f m ud either."
Of the many parts in your car, light truck or sport utility vehicle, none are
more important than those which make up your braking system. At Les
Schwab, we're proud of the brake service we provide our customers.
That’s why we do it right, and we do it complete. We feel a brake system
is only as good as its weakest part. Here's what we do:
