Sheriff's Report
The M orrow C ounty S h e riffs
Office (M CSO) reports handling
the following business:
-Oregon State Police received
a report o f a small car on 1-84 going
55 mph alongside a truck and not
letting anyone pass.
-Oregon State Police received
a report o f a suspicious vehicle along
the side o f 1-84 with a little girl
running toward it. Several other
people were around the vehicle also.
Aug. 23: MCSO received a 911
hang-up call from Dodge City Inn
in Boardman. The ow ner was
contacted and said the call may have
come from one o f the rooms. The
owner called back and said she
thought a Turkish couple attempting
an international call accidentally
dialed 911.
-MCSO, Oregon State Police,
Boardman Police Dept, received
a com plaint from the Boardman
Texaco that an individual did not
pay for a 12-pack o f beer valued at
$9.50. An "attempt to locate" was
issued for 1-84, Idaho and
Washington. Another complaint was
received from the Boardm an 76
station. Jose Angel Rodriguez, Jr.,
was arrested and lodged at the
Um atilla C ounty Jail.
-M CSO received a report that
the Heppner go lf course was
vandalized som etim e during the
night.
-M CSO received a report o f a
lost dog, last seen about 10 miles
outside o f lone on Gooseberry Road.
-Oregon State Police received
a report o f a burglary alarm at an
Irrigon residence. The front door
was secure and no one was around.
-M CSO received a report from
Im gon o f a juvenile shooting dogs
and houses w ith BB guns.
-M CSO received a report o f a
speeding car on 1-84.
-MCSO received a report o f an
orange life vest on Bombing Range
Road.
-Oregon State Police received
a report of a rake lying in the middle
o f the interstate.
-MCSO received a request for
area checks in Irrigon at the park
regarding unknown persons walking
through the park late at night.
-MCSO, Oregon State Police,
Boardman Police Dept, received
a report o f a Ford Taurus on 1-84
with a male driver carrying a gun
in his lap. A vehicle matching the
description was stopped at the
Boardman Post Office. No weapon
was located.
-Oregon State Police received
a report from a caller at the
Boardman rest area o f a truck on
1-84 that had passed on the shoulder
going 80+ mph and was now at the
rest area.
-MCSO received a report o f a
residential burglary alarm in Imgon.
-MCSO received a report from
Irrigon o f a dog biting the caller's
daughter. Rebecca Lee Selz, 46, was
cited for M aintaining a Dog as a
Public Nuisance.
-MCSO, Boardman Police Dept,
received a report from Kegler's
Sentry in Boardman o f the theft of
a bag o f ice. Lueann Rose Jones,
28, was cited for Theft III.
-MCSO received a report from
Boardman o f a juvenile throwing
golf balls. One hit the caller's wife.
-M CSO, M orrow County
Behavioral Health received a report
from a caller in Boardman that he
was feeling suicidal. The caller, who
was bi-polar, was out of medication.
-Heppner Police Dept, received
a report o f juveniles throwing rocks
at a house in Heppner.
-MCSO, Boardman Police Dept,
received a report o f loud music in
Boardm an near Kunze Lane.
Aug. 24: MCSO, Oregon State
Police, Boardman Police Dept,
received a report o f an erratic driver
on 1-84 that was all over the road.
The caller also said that while at the
Boardman rest area, the driver o f
the vehicle said he had picked up
a deranged hitchhiker and the driver
himself was acting very strange. Jack
Lee Vanderburg, 38, was arrested
for DUII and his vehicle was
impounded.
-MCSO, Boardman Police Dept,
received a report o f a disturbance
at the Boardman Texaco. Jack Lee
Vanderburg, 38, was removed from
the station and ordered not to return.
-MCSO received a request from
Imgon City Hall for a deputy contact
regarding a dog at large.
-M CSO, Oregon State Police
received a report from a caller on
1-84 o f a possible sighting o f a man
wanted in California for several
murders. Oregon State Police made
contact with the man.
-MCSO received a report o f a
border collie dog lost somewhere
in Heppner.
-MCSO received a report from
Anson W nght Park o f four to five
males arguing about staying there.
They wanted to hook up a freezer
and were asked to leave.
-MCSO deputy assisted a citizen
with a nde to Boardman from his
disabled vehicle.
-MCSO received a report o f a
careless driver on Highway 730 that
forced several cars o ff the road.
-MCSO deputy issued a citation
for the City o f Irrigon.
-MCSO received a request for
information on a restraining order.
-Boardman Police Dept, issued
two citations tojuveniles for Failure
to W ear Bicycle Helmet.
-MCSO received a request for
background inform ation from an
Army recruiting station on a male
subject.
-MCSO received a report o f a
hitchhiker on 1-84. The caller wanted
to know if hitchhiking is legal.
-Boardman ambulance received
a request for an ambulance for a 85-
year-old female with a history of
stokes who was having a possible
heart attack. One patient was
transported to Good Shepherd
Medical C enter in Hermiston.
-MCSO received a report o f a
black car on 1-84 that was driving
erratically and inciting road rage.
-Heppner Police Dept, received
a report o f a hunting bow taken from
a fifth-wheel trailer in Heppner. An
"attempt to locate" was sent out on
a male suspect for Burglary I/Theft.
-MCSO received a request for
assistance fora caller whose vehicle
ran out o f fuel 10 m iles west o f
Boardman. A deputy took gasoline
to the stranded motorist.
-Heppner Police Dept, received
a report o f neighbor kids throwing
rocks at the caller's residence in
Heppner.
-MCSO received a report from
Hood River Police Dept that Bradley
Charles Wyer was in custody on an
Im gon Justice C ourt warrant for
Failure to Pay Fine/Crim inal
Trespass II. He was lodged at
NORCOR.
Aug. 25: M' »O, Irrigon Fire
Dept, received a report o f a vehicle
on fire on Highway 730. The caller
did not see anyone around the
vehicle.
-Heppner Police Dept, received
a report o f telephone harassm ent
in Heppner. The caller thought she
knew who it was.
-Oregon State Police received
a report o f a small car w ith two
subjects that was weaving all over
1-84 westbound. The vehicle turned
onto Tower Road.
-MCSO received a report from
a caller in Imgon that her purse was
taken from her residence the previous
day. She found it outside and
requested deputy contact. Money
in the form o f $2 bills was taken and
gas stations and markets in the area
were advised.
-M CSO, M orrow County
Behavioral Health received a report
from a caller in Boardm an that
behavioral health sent a female
subject to Yakim a earlier in the
month and now she was back at the
caller's trailer and he didn't want her
there. Behavioral health advised she
was sent to Yakima to a shelter that
she was denied adm ittance to. A
MCSO deputy escorted the female
subject to a motel where she was
advised she had a room until she
could make contact with a friend.
-Oregon State Police received
a report o f an erratic driver on 1-84
eastbound.
-MCSO received a request for
information from a caller in Imgon
on a possible restraining order on
a male subject.
-MCSO received an abandoned
911 call from a residence in Imgon.
MCSO was unable to reconnect and
a deputy was requested to respond
to the residence. All was okay.
-MCSO, Boardman Police Dfcpt.
received a request for assistance from
the female subject involved in an
earlier incident who needed a place
to stay. The Christian Center was
non-accessible. M orrow County
Behavioral Health was contacted.
Lodging was arranged for two nights
and a possible bus ticket out o f the
state to the location o f the female
subject's choice.
-MCSO received a request for
a deputy contact regarding
trespassers. The caller said he has
property near Anson W nght Park
he had been having trouble with.
-Heppner Police Dept, received
a request for officer contact regarding
a current case.
-Oregon State Police received
a report from a caller that his wife
is intoxicated and running up and
down 1-84 somewhere between The
Dalles and Biggs. The caller took
the keys to the vehicle so his wife
couldn't dnve.
-MCSO received a report from
Oregon State Police-Bend that Juan
Carlos Comejo-Gonzalez, 28, was
arrested on an Imgon Justice Court
warrant for Failure to Pay Fine/Theft
III. The subject was lodged at the
Deschutes County Jail.
-MCSO received a request for
deputy contact in Imgon regarding
a pickup the caller purchased. The
person in possession o f the vehicle
would not turn it over to her.
-M CSO, Oregon State Police
received a report o f a white pickup
with Coca-Cola decals on the doors
that was driving erratically on 1-84,
throwing objects out the windows
and making obscene gestures to other
drivers. The vehicle was located.
-MCSO received a request for
deputy assistance for a caller in
Hermiston who said her 17-year-old
daughter was out of control and had
a knife. A citation was issued to the
juvenile for Menacing.
-MCSO received a report o f an
illegal bum located behind the
caller's residence in Irrigon. The
Irrigon Fire C hief was unable to
locate the fire!
-M CSO, Im gon Fire Dept,
received a report o f an illegal bum
in Irrigon. The fire was located and
extinguished.
-Boardman Police Dept, received
a report o f a bicycle stolen from the
caller's residence the previous night.
-Heppner Police Dept, received
a report o f loud music coming from
a residence by the old Court Street
Market in Heppner. The residence
was contacted and the music turned
down.
-MCSO received a report o f loud
music from a residence in Boardman.
-M CSO received a report o f a
possible DUII on 1-84. The pickup
was unable to maintain lane or speed
control. A deputy was unable to
locate the vehicle and thought the
caller may have m isjudged the
onginal location. Oregon State Police
were contacted.
-Boardman Police Dept, received
a report from Boardman o f a
suspicious vehicle just down the
street from the residence the caller
was keeping an eye on. The residence
was secure.
Aug. 26: MCSO received a report
from Boardman o f a young male
subject that jumped over the caller's
fence and was in her yard. A deputy
was unable to locate the subject.
-MCSO received a request for
assistance from Boardman Police
Dept, officer on breaking up a MIP
party in Boardman. Geoffrey
Camme, 20, was cited for Allowing
Consumption o f Alcohol to a Minor.
-MCSO received a request from
a caller in the Irrigon-Hermiston area
to remove his wife from the
residence. She was being loud and
violent.
-MCSO received a report relayed
from UCSO o f a prowler trying to
get into the caller's back door at a
residence on Bombing Range Road.
A deputy was unable to locate the
prowler.
-MCSO received a request for
information. The caller was taking
care o f her brother's residence in
Irrigon and the landlord posted a
72-hour notice.
-MCSO, Boardman Police Dept,
received a request for information.
The caller was interpreting for her
aunt who wanted to know why two
Boardman Police officers were at
her residence the previous night and
also mentioned four possibly misstng
juveniles.
-Oregon State Police received
a report from a caller who said his
wife called on a cell phone and said
he had a flat tire on the John Day
Bridge and needed assistance. The
subject called back and said to
disregard the call as a trucker stopped
to help.
-Oregon State Game Dept,
received a report from a caller in
Hardman who said someone just
shot a doe and fawn.
-M CSO received a report from
a caller in Boardman that someone
got mto her vehicle. It was not known
if anything was taken and she had
left everything as it was.
-MCSO received a report o f a
tool box stolen out o f the back o f
a pickup in Boardman.
-MCSO deputy contacted a person
in Irrigon about the theft o f a
rototiller.
-Oregon State Police received
a report o f a pickup on 1-84
eastbound whose driver was not
paying attention and was a potential
hazard.
-MCSO received a report from
Imgon of a neighbor's vehicle parked
on the caller's property.
-Oregon State Police received
a report o f a Datsun driving
erratically on 1-84 eastbound.
-Boardman Ambulance received
a request for an ambulance at the
Boardman eastbound rest area for
an elderly female who fell in the
restroom and hit her head. The
patient was transported to Good
Shepherd M edical C enter in
Hermiston.
-MCSO received a request for
deputy contact in Boardman
regarding a female subject who
wanted the caller to assist her in
picking up property.
-MCSO deputy arrested Lawrence
Allen Pemn, 25, on a MCSO circuit
warrant for Possession o f a
C ontrolled Substance II. He was
lodged at the Umatilla County Jail.
-MCSO received a report from
a caller in Boardman that someone
had gotten into her car and stole
items.
-MCSO received a report from
another caller in Boardm an that
someone got into her vehicle.
-MCSO, Boardman Police Dept,
received a report o f a burglar/
intruder alarm at the Boardman
Health Clinic. It was an employee
error.
-MCSO received information on
routine maintenance at the Umatilla
Army Chem ical Depot.
-MCSO deputy advised he was
en route to check the location o f a
cam per on C orps o f Engineers
property from last Wednesday. The
camper owner had a warrant out on
him.
-MCSO, Boardman Police Dept,
received a report o f loud music in
Boardman.
-UCSO received a report o f a
vehicle stopped along the side of
the road on 1-84 east o f Boardman.
-Umatilla Army Depot received
a request from a male subject to relay
a message to his brother who works
at the depot.
-M CSO received a report that
Jam es Benard Eastman, 47, was
arrested on a Heppner Justice Court
warrant for Failure to Comply/DUU.
He was lodged at the Umatilla
County Jail.
-MCSO, Boardman Police Dept,
received a report from a male subject
in Boardman that he was assaulted
by his wife. He related that his wife
hit him and ripped the phone out
o f the wall. He i d not need medical
attention.
-M CSO, Oregon State Police
received a report o f a disabled
vehicle on 1-84 eastbound. A tow
truck was contacted.
-MCSO received a report from
a caller in Imgon that they had just
returned hom e and were advised
by a neighbor that a person was seen
carrying property from the caller's
residence. The caller wanted to
consult with her husband and would
call back if they needed a deputy
to respond.
-Boardman Police Dept, officer
cited O m ar Lopez-Perez, 20,
Boardm an, for No Operator's
License, Driving U ninsured and
Failure to Obey Traffic Control
Device. His vehicle was impounded.
-Boardman Police Dept, received
a report o f a male subject loitering
in the parking lot o f the Riverfront
Lodge in Boardman.
-M CSO received request for
deputy contact from an Irrigon
woman concerning items removed
from her residence by her son.
-Heppner Police Dept, received
a report o f a pickup stolen sometime
the day before from a residence in
Heppner. It was signed stolen and
an "attempt to locate" concentrated
on Herm iston and Ellensburg,
W ashington. The ow ner was
contacted and advised of the situation
and the Morrow County Juvenile
Dept, was also contacted.
-MCSO received a request for
deputy contact in Boardman
regarding the caller's horse that he
keeps at a difference residence in
Boardman. The caller said kids keep
m essing with it.
-MCSO received a report o f a
white produce pickup that was
speeding up and down a road in
Irrigon and being loud. The caller
called back and reported the vehicle
parked at the Riverview Mobile Park
Home.
Aug. 27: MCSO receiv ed a report
from a caller in Boardman that her
16-year-old brother took a possible
overdose o f medication. Pioneer
Memorial Hospital was consulted
and advised the am ount was not
harmful, but the subject should
consult a doctor in the morning. The
subject called back and said her
brother also took several different
types of medication in large amounts
The caller was advised to go to the
hospital.
-Oregon State Police received
a report o f a dark pile o f something
on the south side o f 1-84. The caller
said it looked like a body breathing
-Im gon ambulance received a
request for an ambulance for a 59-
year-old diabetic woman who was
conscious but having trouble
breathing. She may have had a minor
stroke.
-MCSO received a report from
a caller that her Malibu ski boat was
stranded on rocks in the Columbia
River 1/4 mile east o f the Irrigon
Manna. Four adults were stranded
No one was injured and they had
water and food until help arrived
-MCSO received a request for
an officer contact from a caller in
Hermiston regarding hernghts and
retneving her possessions from her
ex's residence.
-MCSO received a report o f a
hall motion detector set o ff at the
Imgon Learning Center. A custodian
accidently set it off.
-Oregon State Police received
a report o f four vehicles that
appeared to be traveling together
that were speeding, passing together,
etc.
-Oregon State Police received
a report o f a speeding semi on 1-84
westbound.
-MCSO, Boardman Police Dept.,
Boardman am bulance received a
request for an ambulance at the sheds
o ff Tower Road on the south side
o f 1-84 for a 32-year-old man who
fell 20' to the concrete. The man was
conscious and breathing but had a
possible broken arm and leg. The
patient was transported to the
hospital.
-MCSO received a report from
a caller in Im gon that her husband
had been harassed by gang members
out o f Hermiston that were friends
o f her brother's. There was a
language barrier in communicating
with the caller. A deputy investigated
and found they were no longer at
the residence.
-MCSO received a call from a
woman in Irrigon who wanted to
report her daughter as a runaway.
-Heppner Police Dept, received
a request for officer contact regarding
a strange dog in the caller's yard in
Heppner.
-MCSO received a request from
an Army sergeant at Pendleton for
a background check that he would
pick up at a later date.
-MCSO, Boardman Police Dept.,
Boardman Ambulance received a
request for an am bulance to the
Riverview Motel in Boardman for
the caller's wife who was bleeding
from the ankle. The caller could not
get the bleeding under control. The
patient was transported to Good
Shepherd M edical C enter in
Hermiston.
-MCSO received a report from
the Hermiston Police Dept, that Carl
J. Scott Gittings, 36, was arrested
on a Morrow County Circuit Court
warrant for Failure to C om ply/
Felony Possession o f a Firearm. He
was lodged at the Umatilla County
Jail.
-Oregon State G am e Dept,
received a report from a caller at
Anson W nght Park who thought
people at a camp were night hunting.
The caller said the people leave at
night and in the morning there are
deer hanging. The caller later called
back and said the people were
bnnging a deer in at that time (9:46
p.m.).
-Heppner Police Dept, received
a report from a caller at the bowling
alley that his pickup was m issing
from the bowling alley parking lot.
It was discovered that the pickup
was not stolen; someone moved it
around the side o f the building,
hiding it as a prank. The involved
parties were spoken to.
-Heppner Police Dept, received
a report o f juveniles throwing rocks
at the back o f the hospital and
thought they were at the Mt. Glen
Apts. Possible suspects were named.
-Heppner Police Dept, received
a report from a caller who reported
a vehicle stolen the previous day
that it was located disabled at
Stanfield. The owner was going to
pick it up in the morning.
-M CSO, Oregon State Police
received a report o f an audible alarm
at Greg's Tavern at the back door.
The door was secure. The owner
notified and would arrive shortly.
-M CSO received a report of an
audible
alarm
at
Huwe's
Washboard/76 station. All was secure
and the owner was at the scene.
A ug. 28: Oregon State Police
received a report o f a burglar alarm
activation at Kegler's Sentry Market
in Im gon at the front door and a
motion detector set o ff inside.
-Heppner Police Dept, received
a request for a welfare check from
a woman in Kennewick. Wash, on
her son. Contact was made and all
was okay.
-MCSO received a request for
a welfare check on the caller's
grandmother who lives in Im gon.
All was okay.
-MCSO received a report from
a woman who was watching her
brother’s residence His ex-wife keeps
coming by the residence and taking
items.
-Oregon State Police received
a report o f a single m otor vehicle
accident on 1-84 westbound. It was
a non-blocking, non-injury accident.
-Oregon State Police received
a report o f a semi speeding on
Highway 730.
-MCSO received a report o f two
young children about eight years
old driving a four-w heeler who were
not wearing helmets. They were in
a pasture south o f the Boardm an
golf course. A deputy was unable
to locate the children.
-M CSO received a report from
a caller in Im gon that her 13-year
old son was missing. She thought
he may be at the Im g o n M arina.
-MCSO received a request for
information from a caller in Imgon
who had installed a new alarm
system. He wanted to know the limit
o f false calls. The caller was advised
there was no set policy and it was
by a case by case basis.
-MCSO deputy cited a juvenile
for Theft II and Criminal M ischief
III. The juvenile was cited and
released.
-M CSO received a report o f a
single m otor vehicle accident on
Tower Road about one m ile from
the Boardman Coal Fire Plant. The
vehicle's passenger was taken to the
Boardm an Clinic.
-Boardman Fire Dept, received
a report of smoke near Wilson Road.
The smoke was from the Bombing
Range and had been going all day.
-MCSO received a report o f a
speeding black Jeep on Sixth
W est/Columbia roads.
-MCSO received a request for
deputy contact regarding a landlord
dispute in Imgon. The caller called
back and said to disregard request.
-Boardman Police Dept, received
a request for an officer contact
regarding a juvenile getting into the
pool at Dodge City Inn in Boardman.
-Oregon State Police received
a report o f a chair in the roadway
on 1-84 westbound.
-MCSO received a report from
a caller at Imgon that a woman was
not letting him get to his pumphouse.
-Boardman Police Dept, received
a report of a vehicle driving off from
the Boardman Texaco without paying
for $5 o f groceries.
-MCSO received a report from
a caller in Im gon that her son had
spoken with a 13-year-old female
in Imgon who stated she was very
depressed and had no reason to live.
She had access to three handguns.
The residence and the juvenile was
contacted. She said she was joking
around.
-MCSO received a report from
a caller that someone broke into her
residence in Irrigon and stole a
computer.
- Boardman Police Dept received
a report o f a verbal dispute with a
female customer at the 76 station
in Boardman. The female left the
premises and was told not to return.
-MCSO received a report from
a caller in Im gon that a neighbor
child shot BB holes into the side
o f her residence.
-MCSO deputies arrested Frank
D. Battaglia, 22, on a M orrow
County Circuit Court docket for
Failure to Appear/Show Cause/Parole
Violation. He was lodged at the
Umatilla County Jail on that and
on a local charge o f Possession o f
Less than One Oz. M arijuana.
-MCSO, Boardman Police Dept,
received a report o f an unwanted
male subject in an area in Boardman.
-MCSO received an attempted
911 call from a caller in Heppner
who was trying to report a domestic
violence incident. The woman came
to the MCSO office and related that
her husband assaulted her and pulled
the phone away from her when she
was trying to call 911. He then pulled
the phone line from the wall. David
Dyer, 37, was arrested for Domestic
Violence Felony Assault IV and two
counts of Interfering with a 911 Call.
He was lodged at the Umatilla
County Jail.
A ug. 29: M CSO, Boardman
Police Dept, received a report o f
loud music in Boardman. An officer
was unable to locate the loud music
-MCSO received a report from
Hermiston Police Dept, that Robert
Gene Motley, 33, was arrested on
a M orrow C ounty Circuit Court
w arrant
for
Failure
to
Appear/Menacing and Harassment
He was lodged at the Umatilla
County Jail.
-M CSO, Oregon State Police
received a report o f five-six loose
horses on 1-84 eastbound.
-M CSO received a report o f a
bike stolen from a residence in
Heppner.
-M CSO, Oregon State Police
received several more reports of the
loose horses along 1-84 eastbound.
-MCSO received a report o f a
911 hang-up call. A deputy went
to investigate and discovered
Century Tel was hooking up a second
phone line. All was okay.
-MCSO received a hang-up 911
call from the Irrigon M arina's
caretaker. On call back, it was
discovered the line was disconnected
US West was contacted for
correction.
-M CSO received a report that
Kevin Daniel Helzer, 33, was
arrested on an Imgon Justice Court
warrant for Failure to Pay
