Chamber Chatter
By Claudia Hughes, Executive Manager
As we continue to be so very
aware o f the events o f Sept. 11, let
us remember that fear cannot sustain
a family, nor a com m unity, nor a
country, nor the world. We have been
given a chance to change the ways
in which we carry on our day-to-day
activities, a chance to leam about
other countries and look through
their eyes at us, a chance to show
appreciation for our many volunteer
rescuers, a chance to realize in the
long run if s not about being the best,
being on top, winning the argument,
getting even, holding grudges,
making the most m oney.... ifs about
caring about each and everyone,
understanding, being able to think
for ourselves, freedom, m aking a
difference, being selective in our
choices o f the inform ation and
entertainment the m edia feeds to
us day in and day out and not being
afraid to share what we hear and
feel in our hearts. In the past, has
em phasis been put on the wrong
things, causing people to feel
insecure, inadequate, in need o f
drugs, aggressive, angry? Relish the
positive news stories we are hearing,
som ething new.
None o f us got to choose where
"we landed" when we were bom .
Ifs a wake up call to figure out what
causes so much violence in the world
and question w hat we can do to
change that. Look deep within.
Think. Talk. Share. W e carry on,
hopefully each o f us being more
attentive to others everywhere.
O ctober is here already. Next
Tuesday at John's O ther Place,
CenturyTel will be demonstrating
their new DSL presence in our area.
On Tuesday, Oct. 16, there will be
a tour to the Herm iston Cham ber
to hear speakers from Klamath Falls
on water issues. Lunch will be $10
and a bus will be provided. Call the
Heppner Chamber by Wednesday,
Oct. 10 for reservations, 676-5535.
There is a possibility o f a side tour
in conjunction with the luncheon
if we can schedule with Columbia
River Processing. Stay tuned. Life
goes on.
Thought for the week: "Is getting
back to normal, the normal we really
want?"
