Rockets, 44-6, in their homecoming
game on Friday, Sept. 21.
The win improves the Mustangs'
overall record to 3 and 1, and 1 and
0 in the Columbia Basin Conference.
It didn't come cheap though, as the
M ustangs lost ju nior running
back/linebacker Brad Adams to an
elbow injury on the third play o f
the game.
M ichael M cCabe rushed nine
times for 83 yards and three
touchdowns as the Mustangs rushed
for over 350 yards as a team with

yards before getting hurt.

the first quarter.
The defense held and the

ran for 23 yards, then six more and
a first down. Lovgren picked up
three, then five to set up McCabe's
18-yard touchdow n run. Chuy
Elguezabal kicked the extra point
to make it 13-0 with 1:44 left in the
first quarter.
The defense held again as Brian
Rust tackled a Rocket player for a
loss and Conor Kilkenny had a sack
to force a punt.
The M ustangs took over at the
Rocket 39 with M cCabe picking
up four before Elguezabal hit Kelly
Paullus for a 23-yard gain to the 12.

the extra point to make it 20-0 early
in the second quarter.
A fumbled snap on a punt by the
Rockets gave the Mustangs the ball
at the Pilot Rock 35. Matheny broke
free for 30 yards to the five where
Travis Bellam y scored on a guard
around play. Elguezabal's kick was
good to m ake it 27-0.
The M ustangs again had good
field position at the Rocket 43 after
another punt, with Matheny picking
up eight yards on first down. Lovgren
then took o ff up the m iddle for a
35-yard touchdown. After the extra
point run failed, the Mustangs took
a 33-0 lead at halftime.
A good kick-off by Rust pinned
the Rockets deep and a bad snap
in the shotgun formation was fallen
on for a safety to increase the
M ustangs' lead to 35-0.
The Mustangs took over at the
Rocket 44 after the free kick with
Donald Adams rushing three times
for 14 yards. After two rushes lost
six yards, Tyler Boyer made a nice

from Tanner Britt. The run failed
and the Mustangs led 41-0 midway
through the third quarter.
On the Rockets' next possession,
Justin Botefuhr knocked the ball
loose which Donald Adams
recovered at the Mustangs' 44. Boyer
went for five, but a clipping penalty
took the ball back to the 32. David
Flynn went for five, then seven, but
the Mustangs were forced to punt.
The punt was fumbled and recovered
by Botefur at the Rocket 26-yard
line.
Jode Coil ran for six and Boyer
went for six more and a first down.
Flynn went for seven but a 15-yard
improper equipment call backed the
M ustangs up. On fourth down,
Elguezabal came in and kicked a
35-yard field goal that ju st had
enough to get over the cross bar and
m ake the score 44-0.
The Rockets scored their only
touchdown on the ensuing kick-off
as Bobby Christensen returned it
80 yards for a touchdown. The run
failed and the final score o f 44-6
held up to the end.

Adams with 15 defensive points,

and Rust each had 10 points and
Kilkenny finished with eight.
