Dog calling contest new,
fun fair event
By Sherree Mahoney
A new and exciting event was
held this year on Aug. 17 at the
Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo Friday night
perform ance.
If you weren’t there to watch "the
Call Your Dog Contest", you missed
a very fun and funny event. Dogs
from Madras. Eugene, Sherwood,
Heppner. Lexington and Pendleton
cam e ready to compete.
Steve Kenyon announced die start
o f the race and they were off. Dogs
were literally everywhere, but then
they quickly paired up with their
owners at the finish line, with the
exception o f rodeo clown/barrelman
Joe Sanford's dog which was still
shaking on the start line at the finish
o f the race.
Cecilia Moyers' dog "Lacey" was
crowned the champion, winning a
giant three-foot trophy sponsored
by HM Ranch. Taking second place
was " Moose", owned by Tiffanie
Greenup. Angie Hughes' dog "Heidi"
was a close third.
OTPR and Bob and Sherree
Mahoney and HM Ranch provided
the $100 added bonus money. HM
Ranch also sponsored the trophy
which was made by Randall Peterson
o f Peterson's Jewelers.
The Rodeo B andits helped
organize the dogs and their callers
and were the judges o f the contest.
Rodeo announcer Steve Kenyon got
the audience excited and ready for
the race.
Event organizer Bob M ahoney
felt the event was very successful
but some changes will be made next
year to improve the contest next year.
Bob said, "The only downside was
my dog 'Rusty' finished last."
