    Parade always highlight of Fair & Rodeo week
The Morrow County Fair and
Rodeo invites everyone to
participate in the 2001 Fair and
Rodeo Parade, scheduled for
Saturday, Aug. 18. in Heppner. The
theme this year is "Rolling On Into
the Future."
Sweepstakes will be awarded
to the entry parade judges feel best
follows that theme.
Registration forms are now
available. Although registrations
will be taken the day of the parade,
the parade committee would like

to get completed entries back by
Friday, Aug. 10. Entry forms may
be returned to P.O. Box 1232,
Heppner, Oregon 97836. faxed to
541 -676-9001. or may be dropped
off at either Van Marter and Kahl
Insurance or the Heppner Chamber
of Commerce office.
The parade will start promptly
at 10 a m. Sign in will start at 8:30
a.m. at Green Feed and Seed, which
is located at the north end of
Heppner on Highway 74.
Those with horses should plan
on unloading on Riverside Avenue,
not on Hwy 74 or Main Street.
Judging will take place between
9-9:30 a.m.. with all prizes and
ribbons handed out prior to the start
of the parade.
Parade committee members ask
participants not to throw candy from
vehicles or horses. "This is a safety
issue. We need to have everyone
abide by this rule to help ensure
people stay back out of the parade's
path. It is okay if you want to hav e
someone walk along with your entry
and distribute candy," said Craig
Strobel. committee chair.

Ice cream lovers are now on alert.
On Thursday at the Morrow County
Fair, starting at 3 p.m. in the picnic
area the Morrow County Fair Board
and
the
Morrow
County
Commissioners will be on hand to
dish up scoops o f Tillamook Ice
Cream.
The Tillamook Creamery
Association will sponsor an ice cream
social for those 65 and over. They
will give the seniors a chance to
have a taste of the delicious
Tillamook ice cream and visit with
friends.
Fair exhibitors
welcome
Once again fair superintendents
will be anxiously aw aiting exhibitors
on Monday afternoon from l to 8
p.m. to receive all the entries in the
fair.
Open class fruits, vegetables and
flowers w ill be accepted on I uesday
morning from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.
This year all open class exhibits will
be released on Sunday morning from
9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the same time
4-H exhibits are released.
If for some reason exhibitors can't
make it on Sunday morning, the fair
office will be open Monday through
Friday the w eek follow ing fair from
8 a.m.-noon and l -5 p.m. for pick-up
of items.
Alter 30 days those exhibits that
are left will become the property
of the Morrow County Pair and may
be discarded, said a lair
spokesperson.
