Local youth nam ed to 4-H C ongress
Twenty-five 4-H members,
representing Oregon State University
Extension Service 4-H Youth
Development programs in 15 Oregon
counties, have been selected as
Oregon delegates to the national 4-H
Congress. Shelby Krebs oflone has
been selected for this honor.
The Oregon delegation will join
senior 4-H youth from across the
United States and Puerto Rico at
the congress, which is the 4-H Youth
Development program's premier
annual event. This year's National
4-H Congress will be held in Atlanta
Nov. 23-27.
"Attending the 4-H Congress
as a delegate'is one of the pinnacles
of a 4-H member's experience." said
Mary Arnold, OSU Extension
Service 4-H youth development
specialist. While at the congress,
youth participate in a program of
educational and cultural experiences,
community service, and opportunities
to cultivate the powerful voice of
youth in leadership, Arnold added.
ITie selection of the delegation

achievement in 4-H projects,
communication,
citizenship,
leadership, community service and
readiness to benefit from the congress
experience.
This year, in addition to Shelby,
the Oregon national 4-H Congress

Pennant bearers play im portant role
The 2001 Morrow County Fair
and Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo Pennant
Bearers are Lacey Davis and Megan
McCabe.
Lacey is the 15-year-old daughter
of Ted and Mary Ann Davis of
Heppner. Lacey attends Heppner
High School as a sophomore. She
participates in Wranglers Riding
Club and is in horse and sheep 4-H.
Lacey spends most of her free
time riding and training colts for
herself and others.
Lacey says she considers it an
honor to represent Moreow County
Fair and Oregon Tran Pro Rodeo
this year as a pennant bearer this
year.
Megan McCabe is the 15-year-old
daughter of Kevin and Lon McCabe
of Lexington.
Megan will be a sophomore at
lone High School this fall. She is
an honor student and a member of
the volleyball and basketball teams
at lone. Megan is also a member
of the Ione/Heppner High School
softball team. She is a 4-H member:
and belongs to the North Lex
Livestock club, where she shows
in the swine class, and Granny's
Snappy Snipers sewing club.
This is Megan's second year
serving as a pennant bearer. She is
carrying on a long family tradition
by helping to promote Morrow
County. She says she has enjoyed
her summer and is looking forw ard
to the fair and rodeo.
Oregon Best awards presented
Businesses throughout Oregon
are once again participating in the
county fairs throughout the state by
sponsonng "Oregon Best Awards"
for a variety of contests.
Look in the Premium Book on
pages 53 through 58 to find the rules
and prizes to be given.

program, Saturday, August 18, at
4:30 p.m. in the Wilkinson Arena.
The awards program is a must
for 4-H youth, parents and leaders
and anyone who enjoys young
people.
All fair categones are recognized
at the awards program, 4-H and open
class. It is always fun to see youth
receive the traditional "grand
champion" and "outstanding ...."

The Pendleton Round-Up and
Happy Canyon announced that
tickets for the third annual U.S.
Bank/Pendleton PBR Classic went
on sale Tuesday, July 31, at the
Round-Up office and through
TicketMaster outlets. The award-
winning Pendleton Classic is a
sanctioned U.S. Smokeless Tobacco
Co. Professional Bull Riders Touring
Pro Division event which will be
held at 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10,
and Tuesday, Sept. 11, in the Happy
Canyon Arena.
"The U.S. Bank/Pendleton PBR
Classic has become a traditional
crowd-pleaser in its three years of
existence," said Happy Canyon
Director Doug Corey. "Being named
event of the year two years in a row
shows that we're putting on a quality
show for bull riding fans."
Round-Up Director Steve Corey
said he was pleased to welcome U.S.
Bank back as title sponsor for the
second year. "U.S. Bank has a rich
history o f sponsoring events in
Oregon," he said. "They were the
first sponsor o f the Pendleton
Round-Up and Happy Canyon many
years ago."
Mark Ellingson, U.S. Bank
market president said, "We are proud
to be supporting the PBR Classic
as the title sponsor for the second
year. This sponsorship is a great
addition to the numerous community
and civic activities U.S. Bank
supports in the Columbia Basin."

livestock member" awards.
Most awards are purchased by
the Morrow County 4-H Leaders
Council with funds raised by
volunteers through the donor
campaign or Snack Shack operation.
These awards are separate from fair
premium awards.
"Every youth who completes
project requirements, registers for
fair on time and competes is a
winner," said 4-H and livestock agent
Bill Brodenck. "Encourage family,
neighbors and friends of 4-H
members to attend the awards
program and congratulate youth for
their participation in the 2001
Morrow County Fair."

Cup tour. Riders compete in events
like the U.S. Bank/Pendleton PBR
Classic to eam points toward
qualifying for the tour, as well as
for cash prizes. This year, Round-Up
and Happy Canyon have added
$40.000 to the purse, making the
U.S. Bank/Pendleton PBR Classic
one of the biggest paying events
in both the Touring Pro Division
and the Bud Lite Cup Tour.
The Pendleton PBR Classic, held
in the Happy Canyon Arena, features
the worlds best bull riders and
meanest bulls. It is highlighted by
hard-driving music, fireworks and
laser lights.
Tickets for the Round-Up, Happy
Canyon Night Pageant, and the
Round-Up and Happy Canyon Music
festival are also available. For more

Shad Hisler
buckle on display
The
Shad
Hisler
Memorial calf riding buckle,
which will be awarded to the boy
or girl who is the winner o f the
Morrow County Rodeo calf
riding event, is now on display in
Heppner TV's show window.
The buckle, given in
memory o f 1993 champion calf
rider. Shad Hisler, was hand
crafted by Red Bluff Buckle Co.
The buckle is given by Shad's
family, Paul, Susan, Shaun and
Annie Hisler.
Last year the title went to
two riders, with Brandon Davis
and Madison Bailey both
claiming the championship.
Everyone is invited to
stop by Heppner TV and take a
lot at all the Morrow County
Rodeo buckles.
The Morrow County
Rodeo will be held August 19.

Kiss a pig and
raise funds
Do you have a "favorite" fair
board member that you would like
to see "kiss a pig"? Stop by the fair
office during fair week and deposit
money in the container with your
favorite fair board member's name
on it. The one raising the most money
will have the honor of "kissing a
pig”. All monies raised will go
toward the new boys' dorm.
