The previous thought tor the week
regarded feeling exhilarated w hen
a great idea hits you-that is until
you realize what's wrong with it.
So, I'm throwing out what 1 believe
might be a great idea and am leaving
it to you to tell me what's wrong
with it.
Have you experienced any of
the McMenamms hotels, restaurants,
or pubs, some with theaters, etc ?
The McMenamin brothers have
renovated old hotels, a poor farm,
a Masonic Lodge and schools into
visitor attractions and they are all
in western Oregon. What about
either the old Heppner Junior High
School or the Lexington School...
an opportunity to utilize one of these
old buildings while creating jobs,
a movie theater, art exhibits, stage,
and additional accommodations for
visitors. It would finally be okay
to fall asleep in school. This would
also enhance the existing businesses
we have by bringing in more
visitors. This could be their first
establishment in eastern Oregon,
located in the Willow Creek Valley
along the Blue Mountain Scenic
byway. (So, fire away, before I
approach the school and the
McMenamins. Sometimes dreams
become realities.)
Less than three weeks until the
annual Morrow County Fair and
Oregon Trail Pro-Rodeo. Parade
entries are coming in. "Rollin' Into
The Future" offers all kinds of
opportunities for creativity. Let's
make it a great event for cowboys,
cowgirls, one and all. It's another
Heppner happening. Don't miss the
kick-off dance on Friday, Aug. 3.

Hearing set on
Morrow Power
The
Department of
Environmental Quality has set a
public hearing on a proposed air
contaminant discharge permit for
Morrow Power on August 10.
The hearing will be held at the
Port of Morrow, 2 Marine Drive,
Boardman.
An information
session will begin at 3 p.m., with
the hearing set at 4 p.m.
The permit is for a
proposed
simple-cycle
gas
turbine connected to an electric
generator with a capacity of 24.9
megawatts. The facility is located
