Morrow County Sheriff s Office
put on a bike rodeo May 20.
Deputies Karen Zeller and Randy
Rayburn, aided by Sam VanDoom,
Mike Pratt and a Heppner police
reserve, ran more than 20 kids
through an obstacle course and did
helm et checks. "M ost kids are
wearing helmets that are too big
or aren't fitted properly," said
Deputy Zeiler.
They also gave away 10-15
helmets. Morrow County businesses
donated money for the purchase
o f 300 helmets for a low cost/no
cost program. "Too many kids are
riding without helmets." said Zeiler.
M CSO was able to purchase the
helmets for $5 each. Helmets will
be given to children unable to buy
them. The Bank o f Eastern Oregon
has set up a fund for people or
businesses wishing to contribute
toward the purchase o f helmets.
People who are aware o f children
without helmets or with helm ets
that are old or damaged can contact
Deputy Karen Zeiler at the Morrow
County Sheriff’s Office, 676-5317.
