OWGL President Tom McCoy
had asked all wheat and barley
growers to participate in this event.
"This is an opportunity for all of
agriculture to unite and present a
clear message to the public. The
public needs to be reminded that
food does not grow in the grocery
store, but on the farm. Without
farmers, our nation will be forced
to import the food supply which
will ultimately create additional
issues for consumers. The most
significant impact will be the
increased cost o f food."
The Oregon Wheat Growers
League and the Oregon Grams
Commission answered the call to
action issued by Barry Bushue,
Oregon Farm Bureau President, to
participate in the "Bucket Brigade"
in Klamath Falls which was held
on Monday, May 7.
The Bucket Brigade was a
symbolic effort to personalize the
impact of the recent Bureau of
Reclamation decision to withhold
irrigation water from farmers this
growing season due to an
interpretation of the Endangered
Species Act under drought
conditions. Starting at Veteran's
Park in Klamath Falls, the last of
the Homestead veterans were to
dip water from the sucker habitat.
They were to pass 50 buckets
symbolizing the 50 states down

Court House. 1.5 miles to Klamath
