Ready, get set
Teacher Dean Robinson and Principal Mike Stuart get lathered up by their elementary
students.
Students at lone Elementary and
Junior High School spent the month
o f April busily reading each day.
Every time they read a book they
added a link to a paper chain hoping
to read enough books to make the
chain reach down the block from
the grade school to the office o f
Principal Mike Stuart.
Stuart promised to shave o ff his
m ustache, which had been a
cherished part o f his face for 33
years, if the chain reached far
enough. Dean Robinson, junior high
language arts teacher, also took up
the challenge and offered to shave
his beard o f 14 years.
When the final day came students
were delighted to find their chain
reached to the principal's office and
back to the grade school again.
Librarian Tern Palmateer announced
that the 90 students had read 2.421
books during the month.
At the assembly which followed,
the student from each grade who
had read the most books got to apply
the shaving cream to the men's faces.
The winners were: kindergarten.
Julianne Carlson; first grade,
M aKenna Ram os and Mary
Rietmann; second grade, Beth
Morter; third grade, Stefanie Archer;
fourth grade. Kara Clay; fifth grade.
Shannon Clay; sixth grade,

After a hilanous assembly dunng
which the whiskers and mustache
were removed by the students
everyone was treated to root beer
floats . Everyone agreed that the
men were very good sports and the
teaching staff com m ented that it
was one o f the best educational
activities o f the school year.
