M ustang JVs come back
to beat TigerScots

The Heppner M ustang JV
baseball team came back from 2-0
defecit in the third inning to beat
the W eston-M cEwen TigerScots,
15-5, in Athena, on Monday, Apnl
16.
The Mustangs used a seven-run
sixth inning to break open a close
game and improve their record to
6-1 on the year. The JVs will next
host the Pilot Rock Rockets on
Friday, April 20, at 3 p.m.

with a walk and moved to second
on a Koby Rea walk. Kiel N aim s
singled home one run and, after
Brian G utierrez walked, Adam
Bergstrom singled home two more.
Ben Turrell grounded out to score
Gutierrez and make it 4-2.
The TigerScots came back with
a run in the third and one in the
fourth to tie it at 4-4, but the
Mustangs came back with two in
the fifth to regain the lead. Gutierrez
led off with a triple, Kyler Lovgren
walked and stole second, and Conor
Kilkenny singled both home.
In the sixth, Robert Whalen
walked, Rea singled, Naims walked
and G utierrez was hit by a pitch
to score Whalen. Lovgren forced
another run in with a walk, Naims
and G utierrez scored on a wild
pitchs, Turell singled and Kilkenny
doubled hom e Lovgren. Whalen
then had a two RBI double to make
it 13-4 going into the bottom o f the
sixth.
The Mustangs added two more
in the seventh as Naims led off with
a w alk and moved to third on a
Gutierrez single. Naims scored on
a wild ptich and Bergstrom brought
hom e Gutierrez with a single to
make it 15-4.
The TigerScots scored one run
in the seventh to make it 15-5, but
the Mustangs turned their second
double play o f the game to get out
o f a jam and get the win.
Kilkenny went two for three with
three RBIs and also picked up the
w in on the mound in relief o f
Bergstrom. Berstrom went two for
four with three RBIs; Gutierrez went
two for three and scored four times;
Rea went two for three and Whalen
went one for one with two RBIs.
Gutierrez pitched well in relief,
striking out three while allowing
one run on one hit in two innings.

The Heppner Mustang baseball
team couldn't hang on to a 5-3 lead
and fell to the Condon Blue Devils,
10-6, on Tuesday, April 17, in
Condon. The loss dropped the
M ustangs'
Columbia
Basin
Conference record to 2 and 1 and
their overall record to 8-4-1.
The M ustangs scored a run in
the first inning after Stefan Matheny
singled and later scored on an error.
In the second. Brad Adams doubled
and scored on Travis Bellamy's
double. Matheny doubled in the third
and later scored on another error.
The Mustangs broke a 3-3 tie
in the fourth as Bellam y singled,
Donald Adams walked and Josh
Winters was hit by a pitch to load
the bases. Chuy Elguezabal singled
in two runs to give the M ustangs
a short-lived 5-3 lead.
The M ustangs tried to rally in
the seventh as Michael McCabe
walked, Billy Gates singled, Kelly
Paullus walked and Brad Adams
was hit by a pitch to force in a run,
but a double play and a fly ball
ended the rally and the game.
Matheny and Bellamy each went
two for four with a double to lead
the M ustangs at the plate.
