Cards compete at Sherman County
On Friday, March 23, lone tennis
teams hosted Sherman County. The
Huskies are traditionally a very
strong team and walked away with
eight o f 11 matches.
lone's Sheena Christman posted
the only win for lone and freshman
Billy Ross was bed before the match
was called on account o f darkness.
This was the first match o f the
season for lone.
"Everyone played well,"
commented coach Cathy McCabe.
It is difficult to play one o f the
strongest team s in the league for
your very first match."
In boys' action, Aaron Brown
had huge serves and hit hard against
Joey Yourchek but was unable to
take a game away from Yourchek,
losing 0-8. Jeremy Rietmann had
some colossal serves and competed
stror^» but fell to Brandon Welk,
1-8. Freshman Billy Ross had the
unfortunate draw o f playing the last
game o f the evening and had to call
his m atch with Jeff Holiday tied
at two games each. Ross played well
against his opponent and displayed
some strong skills in the short time
he was on the court.
Aaron Tworek and Derek
Campbell had a strong match against
Brad Goodenough and Brett Brown.
Campbell had well placed hits and
Tworek's speed is what kept them
in the game before they were handed
a 5-8 loss. Jeff Hunt and Cameron
Krebs lost to the number-two
Sherman doubles team o f Ketchum
and Olsen, 3-8. Krebs is extremely
aggressive at the net and Hunt is
constantly improving his skills and
both are learning to play as a team,
said M cCabe.
The doubles team o f Paul Neifer
and Johnny Collin lost to Sherman
County's Kaseberg and Crowder,
2-8. N eiffer and Collin, both
freshmen, displayed strong skills
in the back court and compete well
together.
For the girl's team, Molly Barrow
was down 1-4 against Elisha
Wooderson, made a com eback to
nearly tie at 5-6, but lost the game
6-8. Barrow did an outstanding job
on her serves for the first match o f
the season. Sheena Chnstman easily
defeated Breanne M iller, 8-0.
Christman is a consistent player,
who gets the ball back and lets her
opponents make the mistakes. Emily
Key played an outstanding match
against Devin Wooderson, taking
the match into a tie breaker before
failing 8-0. Tie breaker score was
also close at 7-9.
M olly Barrow and Meghan
M cCabe fought a tough match to
C odie Stroud and Frankie W elk
before failing to Sherman County,
5-8. Emily Key and Sarah Barrow
also made w orthy opponents to
Christine Alley and Kristy Danielson
posting a 5-8 loss.
