Red Cross classes
Lady Card season ends with 8-13 record

The lone Lady Cards
Hie Lady Cardinals wrappeu up
their season on Saturday with eight
wins and 13 losses. This was not
the most successful season for the
Lady Cardinals, but still the team
had a wide variety o f talents.
The leading point producer for
the Lady Cardinals was Amellia
Peck with a total o f 208 points,
averaging 9.9 points per game. Peck
also led the team larceny with 82
steals and was one o f the team's
leaders on the boards with 89
rebounds.
Natalie M cElligott scored a
season total o f 165 points for the
Cardinals and added 75 rebounds,
14 blocked shots, 47 steals and 60
assists to her repertoire. Diana
McElligott added 100 points to her
team’s points this season. McElligott
also captured 67 rebounds, blocked
three shot attempts and snared 55
steals.
Allison Halvorsen scored 88
points, captured 64 rebounds,
blocked three shot attempts and
snared 26 steals before she incurred
an unfortunate injury mid-season.
Cyndi Heagy scored 85 points for
the season, brought down 87
rebounds, blocked six shot attempts
and seized 36 steals. Knstina Powell
scored 67 points, captured 96
rebounds, blocked seven shot
attempts and seized 24 steals.
Salli McElligott scored 50 points,
captured 29 rebounds, blocked one
shot and nabbed 24 steals. Shelby
Krebs scored 39 points, grabbed

lone Cardinal varsity men
narrowly defeated Wheeler. 55-53,
on Friday, Feb. 9. The Cardinals
easily outscored the Falcons in the
first quarter to lead Wheeler, 18-4.
W heeler came back strong in
the second quarter, out-shooting
lone to close the lead to 26-23. Both
teams were pretty equal in the third
quarter, but Wheeler added 20 points
to lone’s 16 points to take over the
lead 42-43. lone shifted their game
into high gear to outscore the
Falcons in the fourth quarter and
claim the victory.
Korey Morgan led the Cardinals
with 14 points, two assists and three
steals. Brooks Rea added 14 points,
delivered one assist and captured
one rebound. Aaron Brown
contributed 11 points to the
scoreboard, handed out six assists,
seized six rebounds and two steals.
Brad Bum ght scored eight points,
delivered seven assists, captured
nine rebounds, two steals and
blocked one Falcon shot attempt.
Cory Bennetto scored six points,
delivered one assist, led the team
on the boards with 13 rebounds and
robbed one Wheeler possession.
Adam Neiffer scored two points,
apprehended two rebounds and one
steal.

from the three- point area for a total
o f 58 percent and shot 71 percent
from the foul line.

assists.
The remaining team members
did an outstanding job o f coming
o ff the bench this season. Tracy
Griffith scored seven points in nine
games, captured six rebounds,
blocked one shot, apprehended four
steals and delivered three assists.
Jeannette Brantley scored 17 points
in nine games, seized 18 rebounds,
nine steals and delivered five assists.

Luke Swanson, a Eastern
Oregon University student and
member
of
the
EOU
Mountaineers basketball team,
helped the M ountaineers rally
from a 19-point deficit to win in
overtime against W arner Pacific.

Swanson, a starter for the
team, had three three-point shots
in the final five minutes o f the
game, the last o f which cut
Warner's lead to three. 63-60,
with 1:28 left.
Swanson had 13 points on
the game.
In a Jan. 19 game vs.
Evergreen
University
from
Olympia the M ountaineers came
back from 29 points down and
Swanson scored 14-points. The
following night the Mountaineers
beat Northwest College and
Swanson made 20 points.
Swansoti. a 1997 graduate
o f lone High School, is the son
o f Jim and Monica Swanson,
lone. A senior at EOU, Swanson
has a 3.5 gpa, majoring in
business marketing.
The American Red Cross
has planned a Teddy Bear (or
other stuffed animal) and towel
drive on Monday, February 19.

Eva Chitty added two points in
the fourth quarter. Chitty played
an excellent gam e, leading the
Cardinals on the boards with seven

The American Red Cross,
Umatilla County Chapter, will hold
fundamentals in instruction training
for any interested parties who would
like to become a Red Cross certified
instructor to teach First Aid, CPR
and other classes available
depending on a case-by-case basis.
The course is a two-day course
to held Thursday and Friday, Feb.
22-23, at the chapter office located
at 920 SW Frazer, Suite 102,
Pendleton, (comer of S.W. 10th and
Frazer in the ground level o f the
3-R's school office building next
to the Pendleton Senior Center).
Class will be held both days from
9 a.m .-12 noon and 1 -4 p.m. Cost
o f the course is $65 and pre­
registration is required.
