No one can say we don’t have
choices in south Morrow County,
at least in regard to our health
care
providers.
Pioneer
Memorial Clinic is proud to be
considered home base for three
very dissimilar individuals who
are employed by the Morrow
County Health Distnct to provide
medical care.
Dr. Saumyajit (Sam) Datta,
with a friendly smile and an
endearing accent, hails from
Calcutta, India.
Datta’s wife, Deepa, is also a
physician, with pathology as her
speciality. The couple have two
preschool age children, son,
Argho, and daughter, Shibani,
and have recently purchased a
home on Chase Street in
Heppner.
After coming to America the
Dattas lived in New York for five
years in order for the couple to
complete their internships and
residencies.
When asked about hobbies
Datta says, “Surfing - the
Internet that is.” He likes to
read, but says he doesn’t have
time for novels and, as for music,
prefers
easy
listening
or
traditional music from India.
Datta admits his greatest passion
is his family.
Dr. Greg Lytle grew up in
Woodbum, graduated from the
College of Osteopathic Medicine
in Pomona, CA, and did his
internship and residency at Des
Moines General Hospital.
Lytle, a high energy person,
has played the drums for a rock
and roll band for almost 30 years.
As for reading, Lytle says he
reads only medical books and
history and is not interested in
fiction.
Lytle and his wife, Karen,
moved to Heppner last year after
living in Pendleton for eight
years. They recently purchased a

home within easy walking
distance of the hospital and
clinic. The Lytles have two
daughters, Heather, who is
attending
Blue
Mountain
Community College, and Megan,
who is in the seventh grade at
Heppner Junior High.
Sheridan Tamasky RN, PA, has
lived in Heppner most of her life.
Sheridan is a careful listener, and
often seems to “read between the
lines” of conversations.
Tamasky and her husband, Ed,
also have two children, A.J. and
Alecia. Tamasky is the proud
grandmother o f Gracie and
excited about the prospect of
having another grandchild “on
the way”.
Most of Tamasky's career has
been in Heppner. She has worked
as a charge nurse at Pioneer
Memorial Hospital, was director
of Tri-County Home Health for
seven years, and worked as
director of nursing at PMH for
more than six years before going
t0 ®HSU to eam her degree as a
physician's assistant.
Tamasky is active in St. Patrick
Catholic church, enjoys listening
to “elevator music”, likes to read
science fiction, and says her dog,
Baxter, keeps her entertained.
Although a person would be
hard put to find three more
diverse backgrounds, they make
up an interesting, yet very
workable combination. There
are no ego issues between these
professionals, and they can be
frequently found consulting with
one another over various aspects
o f a patient’s condition or course
o f care.
Patients say they appreciate the
individuality, as well as the
individual care they receive.
These three frequently telephone
their patients at home to check
on their progress and condition,
and yes, will even make house
calls if the situation warrants.
Monies available for workshops
Attention, employers. Whether
you employ one employee, a few
employees, or a large staff, you have
access to funding for the upgrading
of employee skills, for retraining
o f employees, and for employee
training workshops. The application
process is not complicated, and you
can be reimbursed for up to $5000
in expenses, up to $500 per
employee.
This opportunity comes through
the newly formed "Morrow-Oregon-
Baker Partnership." With lottery
money, this regional alliance will
be working with the two counties'
citizens, business owners, and
organizations for economic
development. Its "Education and
Training Fund" is one such use of
lottery funds offered to employers.
The funds are awarded on a
reimbursement basis. Training may
be available through CAPECO (276-
1926, ext. 110), so employers will
want to check with that agency.
Also, employers sometimes
receive information from their
professional associations about
employee seminars and training
that will meet the guidelines of the
grant fund. Interested employers
and self-employed owners of
companies are encouraged to go
to Heppner City Hall for
applications.
