The Mustang fans that braved

Friday, January 19, were treated
some good basketball with both
varsity teams winning by less
than 10 points. After a close first
half, the Heppner girls won 51-
43.
The Tiger-Scots gave the
Mustangs had all they could
handle in the first half of the
competition, with Heppner
leading by one going into the
break. In the third quarter the
Mustangs gradually pulled away,
outscoring the pesky house pets,
14-9. Heppner held on and
extended their lead in the final
period to hand Weston-McEwen
their third Columbia Basin loss.
Shelley Rietmann proved
unstoppable, scoring 24 points,
12 coming from behind the
charity stripe. Lacey Matteson
scored 10 points for the
Mustangs, with Brett Barber
adding nine.
The Heppner squad out
rebounded Weston-McEwen 44-
25, while converting 12 more
free throws which spelled the
difference.
Although, if the
Mustangs want to match up
against the big guns of the CBC,
they will need to shoot better
than 50 percent from behind the
line.
