Mustangs win key game at Culver

The Heppner M ustangs won a
key Columbia Basin Conference
game at Culver on Saturday, Jan.
13, 51-37. The win improved the
Mustangs' CBC record to three and
one and their overall record to eight
and four, with another big game
at Weston-McEwen on Friday, Jan.
19.
The Mustangs' next hom e game
will be on Saturday, Jan. 20, against
Stanfield.
The Bulldogs hit three three-
pomters in the first quarter to lead
15-13 after one, despite Stefan
Matheny's six points. Ryan Matteson
scored five points in the second as
the Mustangs took a 26-23 lead at

Matteson scored five more in the
third, along with four each from
Michael McCabe and Joe Papineau
to extend their lead to 42-35 going
into the fourth quarter. The Mus
tangs clamped down their defense
in the fourth, outsconng the Bull
dogs, 9-2, and hitting five o f eight
free throws to get the win.
Matteson led the Mustangs with
13 points, eight rebounds and five
assists. Papineau finished with 12
points and pulled down seven
rebounds. Matheny had 11 points
and four assists. Blake Knowles
had 12 rebounds. McCabe had nine
points, four assists and two steals.

The Heppner High School Class
o f 2001 has planned a service
(slave) auction for Saturday,
January 27, during the Mustang
game vs. the Culver Bulldogs.
The boys
will be
auctioned during halftime o f the
girls' varsity game which will
begin approximately at 4:30 p.m.
and the girls will be auctioned
during halftime o f the boys'
varsity game, which will begin
approximately, at 6 p.m.
The minimum bid for
eight hours of work is $50; the
maximum is $100. Work must be
completed and payment made by
April 15.

up for the auction so far include:

by the Heppner High School
Class o f 2001, will be held this
Saturday, January 20, during the
Mustang game vs. Stanfield,
from 3-7 p.m. at the HHS Home
Ec Room.
The menu will include: a
combination meal with a baked
potato and chili, brownie and
coffee or punch for $4 each; a
regular meal with a baked potato
or chili, brownie, coffee or punch
for

family
, combination meal for $15 and a
family regular meal for $10.
Proceeds will benefit the
