Larry Ray Henderson
Larry Ray Henderson, 62, of
Hood River, formerly of
Lexington, died Friday, January
S, 2001, in Portland.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday, January 9, 2001, at
Anderson Funeral Home in Hood
River, with concluding services
and interment at the Lexington
Cemetery in Lexington.
Larry Ray Henderson was bom
May 10, 1938, in Heppner, to
Alonzo and LaVeme (White)
Henderson. He grew up on a
wheat range in Lexington and
graduated from Lexington High
School in 1956.
He joined the Army Reserves
and later moved to Hood River to
work for H & D Logging Supply.
In 1965, he opened Hood River
Honda. In 1972, Mr. Henderson
and his brother, Ladd, opened the
Evergreen Terrace Park. In 1989,
he opened his own automotive
repair, Henderson's Garage.
Many
remember
Mr.
Henderson in parades and
running errands around Hood
River in his Model-T Ford.
He received a liver transplant
in 1988, and while his transplant
was successful, he still struggled
with poor health for the rest of
his life.
Survivors include brother,
Ladd Henderson of Hood River;
sister, Betty MacTavish of
Gresham; nephews, Doug and
Mark Henderson and Joe
MacTavish; and niece, Marissa
MacTavish.

Elmer Martin ''Sonny"
Hansen
Elmer Martin "Sonny" Hansen,
64, of Pilot Rock, died Tuesday,
January 2, 2001, at his home.
A memorial service was held
Friday, January 5, 2001, at the
chapel at Bums Mortuary of
Pendleton.
He was bom August 3,1936-, at
Waterford, New York, U> Ingolf
Melvin and Ingrid A. Kvame
Hansen, both from Bergen,
Norway. When he was one year
old, the family moved to Red
Bluff, California, where he was
raised and attended school.
When he was 13, he was
introduced to his first love, the
guitar. A bom natural, Mr.
Hansen never took lessons and
was always eager to play for
anyone.
On April 11, 1955, he married
his first wife, Cathy Rowan, and
that year began his career as a
log scaler. The couple had five
children. In 1968, they moved to
Boise, Idaho, where Mr. Hansen
worked as a check scaler for the
State of Idaho.
In 1979, he moved to Pilot
Rock where he met his second
and current wife, Darlene Owen,
whom he married on January 2,
1981. Together they raised her
two sons, Greg and Eddie.
Mr. Hansen loved playing the
guitar, his pug dog Satchmo,
camping, fishing and watching
auto racing.
He was a member of the Eagles
Lodge.
Survivors include his wife,
Darlene J. Hansen, of Pilot
Rock; sons, Hoby Hansen of
Heppner, Donald Hansen of
Twin Falls, Idaho, Greg Wart of
Pilot Rock and Eddie Owen of
DeFuniak
Spring,
Florida;
daughters, Sis Ostolasa of San
Ynez,
California,
Donna
Stephens of Florence, and Kathy
Clow o f Melba, Idaho; brothers,
Amie Hansen, Don Hansen and
Dick Hansen, all of Red Bluff,
California; 17 grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his parents,
Ingolf and Ingrid Hansen,
brother, Arthur, and a sister, Ruth
Anna.
Memorial contributions may be

Carolyn Lee Howard
Carolyn Lee Howard, 58, of
Battle Ground, Washington,
formerly of Heppner, died
Tuesday, January 2, 2001, at
Vancouver, Washington, after a
long illness. She died of a heart
attack while undergoing dialysis.
A viewing was held on
Saturday, January 6, 2001, in the
chapel at Bums Mortuary of
Pendleton. Private interment was
held Monday, January 8, 2001, at
Olney Cemetery in Pendleton.
Mrs. Howard was bom July 2,
1942, at Long Beach, California,
to Egland "Lamar" Carter and
Dons Johnson Carter.
She had been a resident of the
Heppner-Pendleton area for 25
years.
She was a member of the
Rebekah Lodge of Lexington.
Survivors include her husband,
Larry Ketteler; sons, Kenneth
Lee Howard of Battle Ground,
Washington, Craig Stephen
Howard of La Grande and
Matthew Shane Howard of
Heppner; daughter, Tammy
Marie Bortvit of Pahrump,
Nevada; father, Ron Woolston;
and 11 grandchildren.

was in charge of arrangements.
Dorthy M. Wilson
Dorthy M. Wilson, 57, a
lifelong resident of Heppner,
died Tuesday, January 2,2001, at
Oregon
Health
Sciences
University Hospital in Portland.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, January 6, 2001, at the
Christian Life Center in Heppner
with concluding service and
burial following at the Heppner
Masonic Cemetery.
She was bom March 2, 1943,
at Heppner, to Delbert and
Suzanne Buchanan Vinson. She
grew up at Heppner and attended
local schools, graduating from
Heppner High School.
On June 24, 1960, she married
Thomas R. Wilson at Heppner.
She was a member of the
grange and the Hardman
Community Center. She was
county librarian for over eight
years.
Mrs. Wilson enjoyed watching
sports, especially Heppner High
School games; she also enjoyed
reading, dancing, rodeos, the
outdoors
and
camping.
According to her family, her
favorite activity was spending
time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband,
Tom, of Heppner; daughter, Lisay
1 Green of Gold Bar, Washington;
son, Perry Wilson of Pullman,
Washington;
her
mother,
Suzanne Vinson of Snohomish,
Washington; brothers, Richard
Vinson of Cody, Wyoming and
Alvin Vinson of El Centro,
California; and two grand­
children. She was preceded in
death by her father, Delbert
Vinson, and a daughter, Rowena
Wilson.

Mary "LaRue" Senn, 73, of
Irrigon, died Thursday, January
4, 2001, at Good Shepherd
Community
Hospital
in
Hermiston.
Funeral services were held
Monday, January 8, 2001, at
Columbia View Community
Church in Irrigon with bunal
following at Desert Lawn
Memorial Cemetery in Imgon.
She was bom Mary 31, 1927,
at Hyrum, Utah, to Marion and
Mary Elva Nielson Clark. She
grew up and attended schools at
Canyonville, Utah.
On August 31, 1946, she
mamed Hubert C. Senn at Reno,
Nevada. They lived at Stockton,
California until 1948, when they
moved to Cottage Grove. In
1949, they moved to Irrigon.
Mrs. Senn worked at the
Umatilla Army Depot for a short
time, then worked at Good
Shepherd Medical Center for 34
years. She worked as a nurse's
aide, then as a ward clerk until
her retirement in 1994.
She was a member of the
Columbia View Community
Church at Irrigon.
Mrs. Senn enjoyed flowers,
sports, traveling, needlework,
reading, and, most of all enjoyed
spending time with family and
friends.
Survivors include her husband,
Hubert
Senn
of
Imgon;
daughters, Gloria Miller of
Hermiston, Linda McRae of
Eureka, California, Terri Linnell
of Umatilla and Stacy Meyer of
Springfield; sons, Dallas of
Hermiston and Cloyd of
Conniwingo, Maryland; brothers,
Manon Clark in Nevada and
Steve Clark of Canyonville,
Nevada; sisters, Dixie Bess of
Hawthorne, Nevada, Lila Cook
in Nevada; Zola Lee in Utah and
Lynne Kennedy in California; 15
grandchildren, 15 great-grand­
children, and many other
relatives. She was preceded in
death by her parents; a brother,
Dallas Clark; and a sister,
Marilyn Bushnell.

Alan Scott Orchard
Alan Scott Orchard, 52, of
Irrigon, died at his home on
Thursday, January 4, 2001.
Disposition was by cremation.
His cremams will be scattered on
King Mountain near Moore,
Idaho, at a later date.
Mr. Orchard was bom on
October 6, 1948, at Twin Falls,
Idaho, to Hezzy and Leah
Osborne Orchard.
He was a former partner of
R&R Auto Body in Hermiston.
He was a member of the Royal
Order of Moose. His hobbies
included fishing, gardening and
hunting. He was also an avid
reader.
Survivors include his wife,
Donna Orchard of Irrigon; sons,
Steven Orchard of Tennessee,
Lane Orchard of Idaho Falls,
Idaho, Harlan Sandbeck of
Imgon and Eric Peine serving in
the U.S. Air Force at McCord Air
Force Base; daughter, Milinda K.
Stohl of South Lake Tahoe,
California; mother, Leah Nation
of Moore, Idaho; brothers, Doug
Orchard of Tacoma, Washington,
and Louis Orchard of Phoenix,
Arizona; and sister, Patricia
Orchard of Moore, Idaho.

Mustangs rally to beat Huskies, 59-51

The Heppner Mustangs built a
big first quarter lead, fell behind
by four points in the third, then
rallied past the visiting Sherman
County Huskies, 59-51, to pick
up their first win in the Columbia
Basin Conference on Saturday,
Jan. 6. The win boosted their
overall record to-6-4 on the year
and evened their CBC record at
1 - 1 .
Next weekend, the Mustangs
host Wahtonka on Friday, Jan.
12, then travel to Culver on
Saturday, Jan. 13, in CBC
action.

Mustangs going in the
first
quarter with a rebound basket
and two free throws, along with a
lay-in by Stefan Matheny, to
make it 6-0 early. Back-to-back
baskets by Knowles, a running
jumper by Michael McCabe and

Heppner Mustang JV boys routed
