to W alla Walla
lone Cardinal vanity men lost
to Walla Walla Academy, 77-53,
on Jan. 2. lone trailed Walla
Walla throughout the game and
even though the Cardinals had a
big quarter, scoring 22 points in
the fourth, they were still not
able to close the lead on the
Knights.
Brad Bumght led lone with 21
points, 16 rebounds, two assists
and one blocked shot.
Korey Morgan warmed up in
the second half, scoring two
points in the third quarter and
eight in the fourth quarter for a
total of 10 points. Morgan was
also responsible for seizing two
steals and one rebound.
Adam Neiffer scored six
points, handed out two assists,
brought down four rebounds and
grabbed one steal. Cory Bennetto
contributed four points, handed
out one assist and captured tour
rebounds and one Knight
possession. Freshman Billy Gates
added one free throw and
launched a shot from the three-
point territory in the fourth
quarter for a total of four points.
Gates also aided the Cardinal
thievery with one steal. Brooks
Rea added two points, four
assists, nine rebounds and two
steals. Dustin Haguewood added
two points and snatched seven
rebounds. Zac Fabian scored two
points, grabbed one rebound and
took over two Walla Walla
possessions. Karl Morgan added
two points, handed out one assist
and captured one rebound in the
fourth quarter.
lone led the Knights on the
boards, seizing 43 of 82
rebounds. The Cardinals shot 57
percent from the line.
Varsity girls retaliate against
W alla W alla Academy
The lone
girls' varsity
retaliated an earlier loss against
Walla Walla Academy by
defeating the Knights, 46-42, on
Jan. 2.
It first appeared that the
Cardinals were on their way to
annihilating their opponent,
leading 16-2 at the end of the
first quarter. In the second
quarter, lone scored 11 points
and Walla Walla added 14
points, cutting the Cardinal lead
to nine points at the half.
The Cardinals were unable to
get their shots to fall in the third
quarter and the Knights closed
their lead to within three points.
Amellia Peck was the leading
poinfproducer for lone with 13
points, three assists and also led
the Cardinal larceny with nine
steals.
Diana McEUigott scored nine
points, captured three rebounds,
two steals, two assists and
blocked one shot. Natalie
McEUigott added six points, four
rebounds, three assists and one
steal. Cyndi Heagy scored six
points, grabbed four rebounds,
dished out three assists and
seized three steals.
Kristina Powell remains a
constant contributor. Powell
added six points and grabbed
three rebounds. Shelby Krebs
added four points and captured
three
rebounds.
Allison
Halvorsen scored two points,
grabbed one rebound, handed out
two assists and had three steals.

points, brought down two
rebounds and robbed two Knight
possessions. Paul Neiffer scored
two points in the first quarter and
captured one rebound. Koby Rea
added one point in the second
quarter but also added three
rebounds and seized two steals
for his team Also aiding in the
Cardinal larceny were Jeff Hunt,
Aaron Tworek and Brian
Gutierrez with one steal each.
Mike Radie snared three
rebounds and rendered two
assists.
Ione JV girls easily defeat
Walla Walla
lone Cardinal junior varsity
women started the New Year on
a good note, easily defeating
Walla Walla Academy, 41-13, on
Tuesday, Jan. 2.
The Knights were almost
scoreless in the first quarter,
trailing the Cardinals, 10-2. The
Cardinals scored an additional 13
points in the second quarter and
allowed only one Walla Walla
basket to widen the lead to 23-4
at halftime.
Natalie McEUigott led the
Cardinal crusade with eight
points, five rebounds and four
steals.
Salli McEUigott came to her
team's aid with seven points, two
rebounds and two steals. Emily
Key scored six points, captured
five rebounds and three steals.
Meghan McCabe scored five
points, grabbed three rebounds
and robbed four Knight
possessions. Jennifer Thompson
scored four points in the second
half for the Cardinals. Caitlin
Orem scored two points,
delivered two assists, seized two
steals and led lone with 10
rebounds. Megan E. McCabe
added two points, eight rebounds,
three assists and three steals.
Jeanette Brantley scored six
points, captured six rebounds and
three steals.
lone varsity girls handed
loss by Helix
lone Cardinal varsity women
were handed a loss on Friday,
Jan. 5, submining to Helix, 41-
40.
The Cardinals led by two
points at the end of the first
quarter, 9-7. Helix closed the
lead to one point by the half, but
outscored the Cardinals by four
points in the third quarter,
causing lone to have to catch up
in the fourth quarter.
Natalie McEUigott pumped in
a total of 13 points, with two
three-point baskets in the third
quarter McEUigott also added
two rebounds and two assists to
her team's aid.

points, shooting 83 percent at the
line. Peck captured 10 rebounds,
blocked one Grizzly shot
attempt, seized three steals and

The lone Cardinal varsity men
were victorious in their pursuit of
a win, defeating the Helix
Grizzlies, 77-60, on Jan. 5.
Leading the lone squad was
Brad Bumght with 24 points,

three steals and blocked four

Aaron Brown contributed 15
points, one assist, seven
rebounds, one steal and one

game vs Condon

Devil possession.
Koby Rea added 12 points,
seven rebounds, three assists and
five steals. Andrew Rietmann
scored seven points, brought
down six rebounds, grabbed two
steals and blocked one shot.

delivered one assist, grabbed five

possession. Cayle Krebs added

arsenal. Paul Neiffer scored one

lone junior varsity men won a
hard-fought game against the
Condon Blue Devils in double
overtime, 48-46, on Jan. 6. lone
had a difficult time engaging in
the first quarter, allowing
Condon a 21-3 lead before they
started to pick up the pace.
Cayle Krebs did an outstanding
job of rebounding for the lone
team and kept the Devils at bay
while the Cardinals closed the
Condon lead. Mike Radie sank a
two-point basket in the fourth
quarter to tie the score at 31.
Krebs added three points and
Radie added an additional four
points in the final overtime.
Leading lone in their victory
was Billy Gates with 15 points.
Gates canned four buckets from
Cardinal JV girls conquer Helix
The lone junior varsity
Cardinal woman conquered the
Helix Grizzlies, 29-25, on
Friday, Jan. 5.
The Lady Cardinals led the
Grizzlies by three points at the
end of the first quarter, but Helix
retaliated by adding seven points
to their effort to lead lone by two
at the half, 11-9. The game
continued to be close as lone was
up by one point at the end of the
third quarter, but the Cardinals
sealed the Grizzlies' fate by
adding 12 points1 and keeping'
Helix; to only nine additional
points in the fourth.
Scoring for lone were Emily
C-team boys defeated by Echo
lone "C" team boys hosted
Echo on Jan. 4. Echo came out
the victor defeating lone 28-20.
Even though the lone squad
played confidently, they were
able to get only 15 percent of the
balls to fall. Coach Jim Swanson
commented that, "Ninety percent
of the shots were indeed good
shots to take, but the ball just
wouldn't fall in." lone did an
excellent job of screening out
and keeping their focus on
playing hard.
Scorers for lone were Brian
Gutierrez with eight points.
Aaron Tworek and Paul Neiffer
contributed three points each.
Derek Campbell, Jeff Hunt and
Til Tullis added two points
apiece to the board. Leading lone
on rebounds was Paul Neiffer
with 10, supported by Derek
Campbell with six. Paul Neiffer
nabbed six steals, Jeff Hunt

quarter, but Condon whittled it
away and led 26-19 at the half.
