Ione girls’ varsity defeated by Rockets

The lone girls' varsity
basketball team was defeated by
the Pilot Rock Rockets, 62-36,
on Tuesday, Nov. 28.
Diana McEUigott was the
leading scorer with eight points,
seven rebounds, four steals and
one assist.
Allison Halvorsen added six
points, captured eight rebounds,
snared three steals and delivered
three assists. Amellia Peck
supplemented the score with six
points, five rebounds, one
blocked shot, three steals and two
assists. Cyndi Heagy scored four
points and brought down two
rebounds. Shelby Krebs scored
four points, nabbed three
rebounds and apprehended one
steal. Salli McEUigott also added
four points, while contributing
two rebounds, three steals and
one assist. Natalie McEUigott
scored two points, captured four
rebounds, seized one steal and
delivered three assists. Kristina
Powell scored two points,
brought down five rebounds and
handed out two assists.
lone boys' varsity succumbs
to Rockets

lone junior varsity men lost
their first basketball game of the
season to the Pilot Rock Rockets,
86-41, on Tuesday, Nov. 28.
Karl Morgan had an outstanding
game, leading the Cardinals with
15 points, six rebounds, one steal
and one blocked shot. Andrew
Rietmann contributed seven
points, captured 12 rebounds,
delivered two assists and
snatched three steals. Aaron
Tworek added four points, two
rebounds, one assist and one
steal. Curtis Thompson scored

four points and had three steals.
Cayle Krebs scored three points,
apprehended five rebounds, and
nabbed one steal. Derek
Campbell scored two points, four
rebounds and one steal. Paul
Neiffer scored two points,
snatched six rebounds, delivered
one assist and frustrated the
Rockets with seven steals. Mike
Radie played excellent defense
for the Cardinals, captured three
rebounds and handed out one
assist.
The Cardinal men shot 72

The lone Cardinals hosted the
Pilot Rock Rockets for their
basketball season opener on
Tuesday, Nov. 28.
lone's junior varsity girls were
the only lone team to claim
victory. The Cardinal ladies'
team defeated Pilot Rock, 35-29.
lone women trailed Pilot Rock
during the first three quarters of
the game but turned up the heat
in the fourth quarter to take the
game.
Caitlin Orem was the leading
scorer for the lone squad with
eight points. Orem also grabbed
six rebounds for her team.
Cyndi Heagy added six points,
had one rebound and one steal.
Jennifer Thompson contributed
six points, brought down six
rebounds and dished out one
assist. Olivia Thompson scored
four points, grabbed three
rebounds, four steals and handed
out two assists. Tracy Griffith
also scored four points, grabbed
six rebounds and had two assists.
Freshman Emily Key scored
three points, led lone on the
boards with eight rebounds, stole
four balls and handed out one
assist. Jeanette Brantley scored
two points, had six rebounds, two
steals and one assist. Megan
McCabe added two points,
grabbed five rebounds, one steal
and handed out two assists. Eva
Chitty , played aggressively,
grabbing five rebounds, nabbing
one steal and handing out two
assists.
Meghan
McCabe
contributed two rebounds.
" I was very pleased with the
way the girls played, especially
for the first game of the season,"
commented coach Ryan Rudolf.
"The younger girls really stepped
up and played hard and my
returning players all played
well."

The lone boys varsity
basketball team succumbed to
Pilot Rock in a close game,
losing by five points, 75-70, on
Tuesday, Nov. 28.

of the first half, 39-35. Pilot
Rock came out in the third
quarter to score an additional 20
points to lead the Cardinals by
one point at the end of the third
quarter, 55-54. lone added 16
points to the board but had a
difficult time keeping Pilot Rock
in check in the fourth quarter,
allowing Pilot Rock to score 10
points from the field and 10
points from the line.
Korey Morgan scored 22
points for the Cardinals. Morgan
shot 75 percent at the free throw
The lone varsity basketball
teams traveled to Walla Walla,
WA. on Saturday, Dec. 2. The
varsity men were defeated by
Walla Walla Academy, 61-51.

Bonanza Tournament this Friday
and Saturday, December 8-9, at

The boys' bracket will feature

The tournament kicks off at 3
p.m. on Dec. 8 with the Umatilla

turned up the heat, scoring an
additional 14 points.
Allison Halvorsen was the only
team member to post scores in
the second quarter, with seven
points, to tie the score at 19-19
by the half.

Cardinal varsity team put up a
valiant effort but was unable to
overcome the Savages, losing 69-
31. The Savages had a smooth
passing game and a nearly
flawless delivery at the basket,
lone had several attempts at the
bucket but just couldn't get many
of them to fall in.

The lone junior varsity men's
team was unable to claim a
victory over Enterprise, losing to
the Savages, 60-49, on Friday,
Dec. 1.
Karl Morgan led the team with
20 points, had eight rebounds and
snared one steal.
Billy Gates followed with 16
points, two rebounds, two assists,
two obstructed shots and three
steals. Andrew Rietmann added
six points, captured five
rebounds, delivered five assists
and robbed four steals. Brian
Gutierrez canned a three-point
shot in the third quarter, brought
down two rebounds, grabbed two
steals and blocked one shot.
Mike Radie scored two points,
brought down four rebounds and
dished out three assists. Cayle
Krebs added two points, one
rebound, one assist and seized
one steal.
