Ione overcomes Condon

The lone Cardinals, playing at
home, overcame the Condon
Blue Devils, 28-6, on Friday,
Oct. 27.
The game was well attended by
lone football fans.
Defense played an important
role in this game. The Cardinals
were able to keep the Blue Devils
from the endzone with a team
effort led by Brad Bumght with
12, Adam Neiffer with 11 and
sophomore Cameron Krebs with
nine unassisted tackles.

For the last game of the season
on Nov. 3, the lone Cardinals
football team traveled to Wasco
County and was victorious, 64-
28.
lone fans who made the
journey to Wasco County were
treated to an exciting game.
The dominating offense was
led by Korey Morgan, a senior
quarterback for the Cardinals.
Morgan threw 12 passes with
eight completions for a total of
314 passing yards gained.
Morgan's passes were received
by Brad Bumght, three for 189
yards; Brooks Rea, two for 66
yards; Adam Neiffer, three for
24; and Adam McCabe, one for
56 yards. Brad Bumght passed
once and gained another 16
yards.
In addition to an unbelievable
passing game, the Cardinals'
running game added to the
excitement. The team was led by
Brooks Rea with eight carries for
69 yards, followed by Brad
Bumght, eight for 56 yards,
Korey Morgan, two for 18 yards,
Adam Neiffer two for eight and
Adam McCabe, one for three
yards.
Tackling for the Cardinal boys
was terrific as well and included
some excellent attacks by the
freshman defenders stopping the
Redsides. Dustin Haguewood
had 10 tackles, Korey Morgan,
seven, Paul Neiffer, seven, Mike
Radie, six, Koby Rea, six, Derek
Campbell, six, Cody Erickson,
six, Brooks Rea, six, Adam
McCabe,

successful passes by Korey
Morgan for 63 yards gain as well
as 21 carries by Brad Bumght for
91 yards, eight carries for 80
yards by Korey Morgan, Brooks
Rea 13 for 66 yards, Adam
Neiffer one for one, Koby Rea
one for six and Mike Radie one
for two yards.

Court hears public works report

Assistant public works director
Bob Naims reported to the court
that the crew has graded and
paved the Jordan Bridge, moved
a culvert on the Dee Cox Road
and plowed and sanded Coal
Mine Road. They are hauling
sand to the Kinzua property for
inside storage. Naims discussed
with the court winter plowing of
mountain roads and rock
crushing. They continued a brief
discussion of the proposed road
, agreement wjth Umatilla County
for the .County Line Road
maintenance. Naims shared a
letter from DEQ, thanking the
county
for sending
two
employees to an asbestos
handling schooling. Four other
employees will attend a class on
flood plain.
County counsel Bill Hanlon
and the court discussed the Act
of Congress lands, posing
questions that must have answers
before a decision on possible
sales.

Hanlon requested direction
from the court on the drafting of
a letter to DEQ regarding the
"State Agency Coordination
Act," which requires state
agencies to coordinate with local
jurisdictions. The court noted
that the goal is to have DEQ
coordinate its permitting process
related to the chemical depot
with Morrow County.
The commissioners discussed
and tabled until research is
completed a resolution for Beef
Northwest Feeders, which is
applying
for
economic
development funds for waste
disposal.
Barbara Hayes, director of the
Commission on Children and
Families, presented the "Morrow
County Comprehensive Plan
2000-2001." The court approved
the plan.
Irrigon plans
awards banquet
Irrigon residents will be
honored on Saturday, Dec. 9
when the Irrigon Chamber of
Commerce hosts its annual
Community Awards Banquet at
Stokes Landing Community
Center at 6:30 p.m.
Honorees will include a "Man
or Woman of the Year."
"Educatpji of .the, Y<?ar," and
"Volunteer of the Year.",,!,
Dinner will feature prime rib
and live entertainment.
A highlight of the evening will
be a decorated tree auction with
proceeds to benefit the Columbia
River Heritage Trail marking the
path Lewis and Clark traveled
through the north end of Morrow
County.

Wasco County falls to lone

canned food drive.
The food drive began on Nov.
7 and will run through Friday,
Dec. 22.
Special drop boxes are
available at Heppner Branch of
Klamath First Federal.
All donated items will then be
distributed to needy families in
the Heppner area through local
service providers, like Red Cross
and the Neighborhood Center.
"Klamath First Federal is proud

A Morrow County School
District
Bond
Support
Committee has been formed to
assist the school district in their
efforts to put a bond issue on the
ballot that will be supported by
the voters of Morrow County.
Officers have been appointed
and a basic leadership structure
for the committee has been
determined.
Committee Meetings will be
held on the last Wednesday of
each month at 7 p.m. The
meetings will rotate between all
of the communities in the county.
The next meeting will be held
Wednesday. November 29, at 7
p.m. at Heppner High School.
At the meeting the group plans
to confirm all of the officer
appointments and decide the
committee's mission and legal
structure.
