lone Middle School FB team undefeated

lone Middle School football team
The lone Middle School boys'
football team ended the season
just as they began-winmng.
The team started with 10
players, to play eight-man ball,
and ended with only nine. One
player moved about half way
through the season. But that did
not stop these boys. They still
ended their season with a 6-0
record.
The Cardinals started the
season with a game against South
Sherman and beat them 45-6.
They then went onto play Dufur
and won 36-6. They played Echo,
winning
28-14,
Arlington,
winning 22-0, Echo again,
winning, 52-30, and finally
ended their season beating
Condon, 43-18.
Every team the Cardinals went
up against had twice as many
players and many of them twice
the size of the lone players. That
did not deter the lone boys. If
anything it made their fight
harder.
"It is not often you can go a
whole season with only nine
boys and come out undefeated
and no injuries," said coach Dean
Robinson.
Robinson and Steve Schaber
were pretty amazed with these
nine boys. Not only did the team
work hard on the field, they
worked hard in the classroom as
Wheatland purchases Van Marter
& Kahl Insurance
well, increasing their overall
GPA.
The players were eighth
graders Nick Christman, Taylor
McElligott, Tyler Raible, Arthur
Ekstrom; and seventh graders
Kyle
Palmateer,
Kelly
Thompson,
Travis
Vetter,
William
Bergstrom, James
Acock.
Coaches were Dean
Robinson and Steve Schaber.
Next year looks to be about the
same as for the number of lone
Middle School players . As it
stands now, they will lose four
eighth graders and gain five sixth
graders.

Left to right: Steve Rhea, Janet McDowell, Nancy Snider, Marianne Kahl, Bob Kahl
Bob and Marianne Kahl,
owners of VanMarter and Kahl
Insurance on Main Street in
Heppner, have announced that
their have entered into a purchase
agreement with Wheatland
Insurance Center, Inc.
Kahl said he sees the change
as a very positive move for their
Heppner office. According to
Kahl,
in
addition
to
strengthening the relationship
they have with the insurance
companies they now represent,
the affiliation makes additional
markets and companies available
for them to use to serve their
customers even better.
The Wheatland Insurance
Center Inc. organization includes
nine independent insurance
agent's offices in Northeastern
Oregon—in lone, Pendleton,
Athena, Enterprise, Pilot Rock,
La Grande, Hermiston, Baker
City and now Heppner.
Current plans include the
Heppner office continuing to
operate as VanMarter & Kahl
Insurance even after all the
changes are completed.
One of the changes people
will see, Kahl said, is the
addition of Nancy Snider to staff
in the Heppner office. In addition
to serving her current customers,
Snider will serve as the new
office manager.
Snider has been with
Wheatland Insurance for some
time, working in the lone office
for the past 17 years, and has an
"excellent
insurance
background," said Kahl. "Equally
important is the commitment to
community Nancy brings. Her
involvement in such things as
Cycle Oregon, the Willow Creek
Park District, lone's Fourth of
4»«+«» »Mer*»«»*»«*
July Celebration and the Blue
Mountain Community College
Board are typical of her efforts,"
he added.
Kahl said that he and wife,
Marianne, look forward to
spending more time with their
children and grandchildren with
this change. "However," he said,
"with the capable help of Janet
McDowell. Steve Rhea, and now
Nancy Snider, things should be
well in hand."
