Seniors matter to Smith
__________Letters to the Editor__________
To the Editor:
I like positive campaigns. I
vote for positive candidates. I'm
voting for Greg Smith for
Oregon State Representative,
District 59.
I have known Greg Smith for
many years. He has always, been
an advocate for our community.
We have been working closely
on the Willow Creek Valley
Assisted Living Facility. With
Greg's assistance, we are moving
forward on the financing of
equipment and furniture for this
much-needed facility.
Senior matters are important to
Greg Smith. As I stated earlier,
Editor's note: Letters to the Editor must be signed. The Gazette-Times will not
publish unsigned letters. Please include your address and phone number on all
letters for use by the G-T office. The G-T reserves the right to edit. The C-T is not
responsible for accuracy of statements made in letters.
Cemetery destruction a shame
we have worked side-by-side on
tackling these critical issues.
While the legislature alone
cannot ensure that I see my
personal physician of choice, I
am astute enough to understand
that the Oregon House of
Representatives plays a crucial
role in insurance. That insurance
is called Medicaid and the
Oregon Health Plan, and the next
State Representative for District
59 will be making decisions on
the vitality of those services.
Vote Greg Smith.

Although the W iglesworth
stones were not damaged, prob
ably because they are extra large,
1 would like to see if the other
stones can be repaired or set back
up again. I would be happy to do
nate to this cause if it is possible.
Maybe a scout troop or someone
could spearhead such an under
taking. Also it would be nice to
have the name of the cemetery
put up near the gate. I believe it
was known as Pleasant Point. My
father Walter Wiglesworth who is
90 years old and lives in Rose
Harbor in Hermiston is a good
source of information on this cem
etery.

To the Editor:
1 took these pictures in Septem
ber when we visited this cemetery
on Little Buttercreek on the Tom
Curnn Ranch. I have been gone
for two or three years and
couldn’t believe the destruction to
the stones. I understand the county
mows the cemetery, so don’t
know when all these stones were
pushed over. It would have taken
great force on some as there were
steel rods inside that were broken.
Most of the stones are dated back
in the 1800s and it is a shame to
lose so much history. Our family
always enjoyed reading the differ
ent markers and imagining the his
tory.

To the Editor:
I am writing this letter in
support of Steve Myren who is
running for Morrow Co. Sheriff.
I feel we need a change in some
of the policies in our Sheriffs
department. Steve has some new
ideas and has said he is in favor
of a more aggressive approach to
drug enforcement and other
problems in our area. I believe
instead of waiting for some "big
fish" maybe we can get rid of
some of the smaller ones.
Steve wants to increase the
amount of patrols in the county.
By doing so, the department will

To the Editor:
We were in Heppner elk and
deer hunting last month. The
pickup in which we were
traveling lost its brakes. It had to
be taken to Hermiston to be
fixed. We had the travel trailer
towed into Heppner. We stayed
in Heppner for two weeks
waiting for the pickup to be
repaired.
We want the people of Heppner
to know what a friendly town
you have. We were treated
wonderfully by everyone we met.
Especially the owner and the
managers of the Northwestern
Motel and RV Park. They did
everything they could to make
our stay pleasant. Jim and Darla
Wishart were so good to us. We
would highly recommend the
Motel and RV Park to anyone
going to Heppner.
It's nice to know that there are
still small towns in our country

believes as 1 do - let the citizens
keep their hard earned dollars.
This November. 1 will be
voicing my opinion by saying no
to increased taxes through a vote
for
Greg
Smith.
Greg
understands that a prosperous
economy doesn't occur through
government control and more
taxes, but by allowing our free
enterprise system to work. Greg
has convinced me that he will
work hard to reduce the tax
burdens on working citizens and
small business owners, so that
they can once again be profitable.
If you feel as I do, the choice is
simple - vote Greg Smith for
Oregon State Representative,
District 59.

.What happens if some antv-gun
bureaucrat happens to be running
the instant check while a gun
show is being held. They can
shut it down and you couldn't
buy or sell a gun.
This is another ploy of the
anti-gunners to take the guns
away from law-abiding citizens.
The criminals have two ways of
getting guns. One is steal, the
other is the black market.
All hunters and gun owners be
sure and vote and vote no on
Measure 5.

To the Editor:
Vote no on Measure 5-the so-
called instant check on guns
purchased at gun shows. It does
nothing to keep guns out of
criminals hands. The way the
measure is written, if you buy a
gun at a gun show both the gun
and you are registered for five
years in the state police files.
, Several years ago California
passed a law that all guns had to
"be registered. Then in couple of
years they listed a whole bunch
of these guns as illegal and
started confiscating them. That is
what can happen here in Oregon
if Measure 5 is passed in spite of

To the Editor:
It seems like every two years,
when the legislature conveys,
you had better grab your wallet.
Whether it's trying to raise the
income tax, changing the way
property is valued or the "little"
fee increases we face, our hard
earned money always seems to
disappear.
Take Measure 5 for instance;
this is just another way to tax an
item. I am an advocate for the
Second Amendment, but putting
the freedom issue aside, the
government
is yet again
requiring registration with a fee.
I also believe that the kicker tax
should be returned to the
taxpayers. After attending a
public debate for House District
59, I found that Greg Smith
