Heppner special
to accident
victim’s friends,
family
State Medical Preparedness Officer Steve Myren (right) presents a
check to Morrow County Health District Administrator Victor
Vander Does (center) and EMS Coordinator Carl Lauritsen to
provide an additional ambulance for the district.
July's activities were a pack
camp out at Cutsforth Park and
being flag bearers at the opening
ceremonies at the Little League
games. For three days at
Cutsforth Park the Cub Scouts
and their families hiked, built
fires, played games, learned how
to use a compass and competed
in
a
variety
of
skills
competitions.
Because of their busy summer
many boys earned activity
badges, pins and achievement
awards. Five boys earned their
Bear badges: Curtis Harper.
Colter Raver, Drew Johnson,
Bryan Holland and Tyler
Robinson. Matt Holland earned
his Webelo badge.
In addition to the Pack
receiving an award, nine boys,
Bryan Holland, Drew Johnson,
Curtis Harper, Colter Raver, Matt
Holland, Taylor Disque, Trent
Miles, Brent Brosnan and Devin
Robinson, received individual
Summertime Activity pins.

Cub Scouts receive summer
activity award
Cub Scout Pack 661 worked
hard this summer and earned a
Pack Summertime Activity
Award. This award is given to
packs that have 50 percent or
more of their boys attending one
or more activities per month in
June, July and August.
In June, 19 boys attended day
camp in Hermiston. For four
days the boys played games,
made crafts and had fun. They
went on a nature hike where they
saw a variety of birds and
animals and learned survival
skills. The hike ended with
s'mores cooked in a solar oven.
They also took a tour of the fish
viewing center at McNary Dam,
ran an obstacle course, and shot
b.b. guns.
Also in June boys from the
Pack participated in the annual
Flag Day Ceremony at the Elks
Club. The Heppner Elks Club is
the
Pack's
sponsoring
organization.
Engagement
Cross that was placed at accident
scene where Canadian man died
last summer
Heppner has been very good
to friends and family of a
Canadian man who died in an
accident on Coalmine Hill last
summer, says Darla Wishart of
Heppner.
Wishart says friends and family
of Bryson Heartvvell, Spruce
Grove, Alberta Canada, were in
Heppner last week to put flowers
at the accident site, and to tell the
people of Heppner how much
their kindness was appreciated,
following the death of their friend
and family member on June 29.
They had thanked the people of
Heppner in Heartwell’s obituary
in a Canadian newspaper.
Heartwell died when the
motorcycle he was riding collided
with a pickup truck on Coalmine
Hill.
The Wisharts, who run the
Northwestern Motel in Heppner,
helped out the grieving family
and became friends with the
Canadians in the process. Darla
made a cross and placed it on the
spot where the accident took
place.
Heartwell, 46, was a husband
and father when he died.
"To those of you who missed
meeting these very special people,
hopefully, you'll have a chance to
meet them on their next visit.
They think the people of Heppner
are very special," says Darla
Wishart.
