Aogu9* 9, 2000 Pennant bearers accompany court Pennant bearers for the 2000 Morrow County Fair and Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo are Lacey Davis, Nicole Wilson, Jessica Wainwright, Megan Elizabeth McCabe, Megan Healy, Genia Grant and Crystal Weseman. Lacey Davis is the 15-year-old daughter of Ted and Mary Ann Davis. Lacey attends Heppner High School as a freshman. She participates in Wranglers Riding Club and is in Horse and Sheep 4-H. Lacey spends most of her free time riding and training colts for herself and others also. Lacey considers is an honor to represent Morrow County Fair and Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo this year as a pennant bearer. past five years. In her spare time she likes riding her horse and baby-sitting. Jessica Wainwright is the daughter of Buz and Stacey Wainwnght of Heppner. She has a younger brother Jason. Jessica is very involved with dog, horse and sheep 4-H. Her hobbies are basketball and riding. She will be a eighth grader this coming fall at Heppner Junior High School where she has been an honor student. The horse Jessica will be using this summer is named Jazz. Megan Healy is the 15-year- old daughter of Faith and John Healy of Heppner. She will be a sophomore in the fall at Heppner High School. Megan is a member of the Wranglers Riding Club and enjoys water skiing and volleyball. She has shown 4-H swine for the past four years and also participates in 4-H horse. Megan is honored to represent Morrow County Fair and Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo this year as a pennant bearer. She will be riding her thoroughbred gelding Davey. Megan Elizabeth McCabe is the daughter of Kevin and Lori McCabe of Lexington. Megan is an honor student at the lone Schools. She participates in volleyball, basketball, softball and community activities. Megan is also active in 4-H, doing both sewing and swine. Megan is continuing a long family tradition by helping promote Morrow County. She looks forward to the fair and rodeo this year. i’ . Crystal’s favorite things are her horse, rabbits, softball, basketball and spending time with her family. She shows pigs and rabbits in 4- H. Crystal also served as a with the 1998 Court. OMPAP Basketmaking demo planned for the fair Relive history by watching baskets being made from start to finish at the Morrow County Fair on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Aug. 16-18, from approximately 11 a.m.- 7 p.m. The basketmaking demonstrations are sponsored by Artisan Village, a new Heppner business on 288 North Main Street. The demonstration will be outside under the trees near the Old Beef Bam at the fair. Look for a striped green and white canopy. Each day, in addition to the basketweaving, there will be a different display of a specific grouping of basket types, which will include some historic information. Traditional style baskets from the Appalachians and colonial days, wicker style baskets including those from reed and willow and baskets representing various Indian tribes will be on display at some time during the three days of demonstrations. Each person who stops by to watch and learn may also enter his or her name for a drawing for a free basket (one of those made during the demo time). An information sheet on the new business and how to take classes will also be available. Demonstrators will be Bonnie Wenberg, skilled basketmaker from Artisan Village, which opens Sunday, Aug. 13, and Heidi, Nels and Mindy Wenberg. Bonnie has taken over 50 basket classes, including some from leading basketmakers in the United States and also teachers from Japan and England. She has taught basketmaking in Wisconsin, Colorado, Vermont, Michigan, North Carolina, Indiana and Washington at major basketmaker’s conventions. She had a basket shop in Arlington, Washington (Puget Sound) from 1996-1999. The 5th annual Morrow County Chili Cook-Off will be held on Friday, August 18. Cooking begins at 10 a.m. The rules are simple and one can find them in the Morrow County Fair Premium Book on page 140.
