Nova Rietmann and Gene Enos
Nova Rietmann and Gene Enos, both Pendleton, have
announced their engagement to be married.
Nova is the daughter o f Harold and Sharon Rietmann, lone. She
graduated from lone High School in 1999 and is attending Blue
Mountain Community College. She is employed at Wal-Mart and
Godfather's Pizza in Pendleton.
Gene is the son o f Sophia Bearchum o f Athena. He graduated
ffdm Weston-McEwen High School in 1998 and is employed at
Radio Shack, Pendleton.
The couple plan an August 19, 2000, evening wedding at Athena.

Chamber to tour Port of Morrow
Heppner Chamber
of
Commerce members will take a
narrated driving tour o f the Port
o f Morrow facilities, including a
no-host lunch at the port, and a
tour o f Boardman on Tuesday,
July 18.

Irrigon Chamber o f Commerce
Board o f Directors have been
invited to join the Heppner
Chamber for lunch, noon, at the
port.
The senior bus will depart from
the Klamath First Federal
parking lot, Heppner, at 8:30
a.m.
and
will
return
at
approximately 4 p.m.
Pre-registration is required.
Cost, including lunch, is $10.
The bus holds 18 people.

reservations.
The home o f Al and Linda Riney, 345 Skyline Drive, Heppner,
has been selected as the Heppner Garden Club yard o f the month
for July.
The Rineys, who have lived at the new residence for about a
year, have done extensive work landscaping the yard and adding
flowers and decorative floral pots to their meticulous yard and
intricately patterned deck, which was built by Al. The house also
features a spectacular view o f Heppner.
The Rineys, a retired ranching couple who moved to Heppner
from Condon, say that while they are ahead o f schedule in the
landscaping projects they have planned, they still have a long ways
to go.

School, were selected to play on
the 2000 Rising Star Summer
Classic Top Gun Challenge bas­
ketball boys’ north team. Shelley
Rietmann, also o f Heppner, will
play for the girls’ team.
The all-stars were selected
from the 1999-2000 playing sea­
son. The tournament is an Inter­
mountain challenge between the
top players south and north o f the
Blue Mountains o f Eastern Or­
egon.

Heppner has the most players
attending o f any school in the re­
gion.
The teams will play at Pilot
Rock on Friday, July 14. The girls’

teams will play again Saturday,
July 15 at Cove High School, with
the girls’ game at 6 p.m. and the
boys’ game at 8 p.m.

Ray O'Neal
Ray O'Neal o f Heppner was
bom in Clovis, New Mexico, and
attended school in Fossil. He
enlisted in the Navy in 1954,
serving until 1957.
After his discharge from the
Navy, O'Neal went to work for
Kinzua, working in the mill until
1961. He then moved to
Wallowa, working for the Wayne
W o lff ranch as a ranch hand for
five years. He returned to
Kinzua, working in the woods as
a cat skinner until the logging
operation closed in 1978.
He was then hired by Guy Van
Arsdale on his road construction
company and was still with Van
Arsdale five years later when the
company shut down. That same
year O'Neal went to work for the
Morrow
County
Road
Department.
After retirement O'Neal says he
doesn't plan on doing anything
special, however he hopes to do
some fishing and visit relatives
he hasn't seen in a while. The
O'Neals plan to stay in Heppner.
O'Neal and his wife, Betty Lou,
have three children, Richard,
who lives in Pnneville; Jim, who
lives in Duvall, W A; and Donna
Maben,
Heppner;
and

grandchildren. Their daughter,
Susan, and two grandchildren
have passed away.
