team roping
Ryan Matteson and Blake
Know les, both Heppner, won the
team roping championship at the
Molalla rodeo June 3-4 with a
10.21 run. Matteson also placed
fourth in the calf roping with a
15.44. while Knowles took fourth
in steer wrestling with a 8.35.
Also placing in the steer
wrestling was Chris Irzyk of
Moro with a 7.27 time.
Never missing an opportunity at
thrilling the crowd, Condon's
Travis Camine held out until the
final rodeo of the regular high
school rodeo season at Molalla
to'qualify for the Oregon State
High School Rodeo finals.
By turning in a 4.32 on his first
steer thrown in competition.
Camine not only gathered the
needed points to qualify him for
a trip to the state finals, but won
the steer wrestling and a
championship belt buckle.
"The high school rodeo
community
had
anxiously
awaited his success and rewarded
him with thunderous applause
and congratulations." said Lynn
Wilkins. "Many believe this is
the beginning of a promising
career in the rodeo arena."
Pole bending action saw
Condon's Marne Wilkins taking
second with a 20.690 run, while

lone's Tracey Griffith was sixth
with a 21.291. Sybil Krebs, also
of lone, took third in breakaway
roping with a 4.60, while
Heppner's Lacey Matteson was
eighth with a 7.98. Matteson also
placed 10th in the barrel racing
on a young horse with a 18.596.
Others who are familiar to the
area include Blake West, Union,
who won the saddle bronc with a
70 score. Brandt Giovamm.
Prineville, who finished 10th in
the three calf ropings with a
21.45 and turned in a 11.81 for
third in the .earn roping.
Roseburg's Jessica Tatone was
third in barrel racing with a
17.829, while Nataly Tatone took
the pole bending title with a
20.551. Nataly was also 10th in
breakaway with a 24.49. Girls
cutting action saw Nataly Tatone
in fourth with a 71 score and Liz
Bowerman, Prineville eighth
with a 66.
The top 20 in each event will
qualify to compete at the Oregon
State High School Rodeo Finals
in Redmond on June 15-17.
