School. Philip is a 1995 graduate of Crane High School and is
student teaching fourth grade at Alameda Elementary in Ontario.

HHS band goes to Silverwood
By Dan Jepsen
These past few months, citizens
of Heppner may have noticed
several fund raisers going on
around town-raffles, car washes
and pop can drives. This money
was all raised for the Heppner
High Band's trip to Silverwood.
With enough money finally
raised, the band was able to
depart on Friday, June 19.
The band, which consisted of
20 players and two chaperons,
first
traveled
to
Cheney
Washington, where they visited
the
Eastern
Washington
University
campus.
Band
members were given a tour of the
campus by college ambassadors
and student Brad Bullington.
Students also were allowed to sit
in on an EWU band rehearsal.
That evening, after unpacking
at the Willow Springs motel, the
band went to a Jazz concert being
held at the college. Three
different groups played that
night. Many saxophone solos
were featured as well as some
singing from the vocal group.
The next morning, Heppner
departed for the Silverwood
theme park near Coeur d'Alene,
Idaho. The band performed a
concert in the theme park. They
played songs including: March
for Freedom. The Washington
Post, Kentucky 1800, American
Woman and others. For playing
at the park, band members were
admitted free into the theme park
and enjoyed the rest of the day.
Silverwood has over 50
attractions. Several of them are
large roller coasters. The Timber
Terror,
Tremors and the
Corkscrew were some of the
students favorite rides. Others
chose to take it easy on the more
mild rides. Many students got
wet on the river rides and spent
part of the trip home drying out.
The band left the park in the
evening and finally headed home
after a very long, but fun day.
