lone tennis teams hosted
Umatilla on Tuesday, April 18.
Umatilla cleaned up on both
accounts, winning four of the six
women's matches and five of the
seven men's matches.
Jennifer Thompson fell to Patty
Mendoza, 1-8. Salli McElligott
lost a close match to Blanca
Mendoza, 6-8. Sheena Christman
posted a win against Mariana
White, 7-5. Samantha Wilhelm
lost to Chelsea Kik, 3-6.
In doubles' action, Enn Crowell
and Molly Barrow succumbed to
Mayra Robledo and Ashley Lee,
7-9. Allison Halvorsen and
Shelby Krebs defeated Tnsta
White and Karlyn Masters, 8-6.
Jeremy Rietmann lost to Bill
McAdams in a tight match, 7-9.
David Mansfeld tried his hand
at the singles' action and defeated
John Routson, 8-6. Derek
Campbell lost to Jack Hess, 1-6.
Aaron Tworek was defeated by
Bill McCorkle, 2-6.
Adam Neiffer and Adam
McCabe fell to Adrian Palomino
and Paul Valle, 4-8. Jeremiah
McElligott and Colin McElligott
defeated Jeff McConnell and
Bruno Ybarra, 8-6. Damian
Wolfgram and Tony Villanueva
of Umatilla defeated the doubles
team of Karl Morgan and Adam
McCabe, 6-3.
A highlight of the April 12
meeting of the lone Site Council
was the perusal of the lone
School Report Card, recently
issued by the State Department
of Education.
The school was graded
"Satisfactory"
overall.
The
student performance section,
based on test scores and
improvement shown in that area,
was
satisfactory.
Student
behavior, based on attendance
and drop-out rates, received an
"exceptional" rating and school
characteristics were marked
satisfactory.
Parents will receive a copy of
the school report card by the end
of May.
Money issues were also
discussed. It was reported that a
group is working to publicize the
Local Option Levy that will be
voted on in May. Successful
passage of this tax measure could
bring back 10 of the 17 positions
lost to earlier budget cuts.
A group of concerned citizens
have organized to find funding
solutions for the lone swimming
pool. Negotiations are starting
with the Willow Creek Park
District to fund a majority of the

the team struggled a little during
their matches. "Most of the team
didn't play up to their normal
skill levels. The wind blew
extremely hard, raising havoc
with serves and shot placement."

Helix on Friday, April 21. lone
men posted three wins to the
Grizzlies' two. The women
played only two matches and
split with Helix.
Jeremy Rietmann lost to Tom
Terjeson, 1-8. Derek Campbell
posted his first win of the season
by defeating Damon Hendricks,
8-2. Adam Neiffer defeated Ben
Schwarz, 8-6. Neiffer improved
his serving and had some well
placed serve receives to
overcome his opponent.
Adam McCabe and Adam
Neiffer teamed up to defeat Joey
Markgraf and Ben Schwarz, 8-5.
Karl Morgan and Steve Crum
lost their doubles' match to Ben
Schwarz and Damon Hendricks,
2 - 8 .
Sheena Christman posted a win
against Paulina Palian, 8-2.
Samantha Wilhelm was defeated
by Palian, 0-8. Wilhelm had
several games that came to deuce
but she just couldn't pull out a
game against Palian.
lone men's tennis team play at
Sherman Co. invitational
The lone men's tennis team
accepted an invitation by
Sherman County High School to
compete in The Dalles on
Saturday, April 22.
Three of the nine Cardinal team
members earned honors at the
Sherman County Tournament on
Saturday.
Jeremy Rietmann won the
consolation round. Rietmann lost
his first match against Bill
McAdams, 3-8. Rietmann earned
his passage to the consolation
championship by defeating Joe
Chang of Hood River Valley, 8-
1.
In the championship, Rietmann
defeated Rivera of Stanfield, 8-4.
The first half of the match
remained extremely close but
Rietmann was able to pull away
from a 3-4 deficit to secure the
win.
Cameron Krebs and David
Mansfeld brought home fourth-
place
medals
from
the
tournament by defeating Pnncc-
Weigand, of Madras, 8-1. Krebs-
Mansfeld were handed a loss by
Apancio-Gray of Umatilla, 4-8,
in the second match but came
back in the third match to defeat
their
team
members
of
McElligott-McElligott, 8-0.
Krebs-Mansfeld earned their
way to a fourth place finish by
defeating Nagell-Escobar of
Madras, 8-4.
Derek Campbell lost his first
match to Hams of Madras. 0-8.
Campbell retaliated by defeating
his next opponent, Danielson,
Sherman County, 8-1.
Aaron Tworek lost his first
match to Tom Terjeson of Helix.
0-8. Tworek then played against
Jack Hess of Umatilla before
losing, 1-8.
The doubles team of Jeremiah
McElligott and Colin McElligott
won their first match against
Goodenough-Langston
of
Sherman County, 8-2. McElligott
X2 lost to Brady-Phillips of
Hood River Valley, 4-8, before
losing to fellow team members,

Neiffer-McCabe lost their second
match to Klos Simmelink of
Madras, 5-8. McCabe-Neiffer

Coach Cathy McCabe said that
the
entire
team
had
commendable tournament play.
"I thought it was impressive that
all three doubles teams advanced
in the first round of the
tournament. They all worked
hard and made some smart
shots," said McCabe.

Committee are trying and the
committee says it looks forward
to a good response from grades
one-three.
