    Cardinal Booster Club discusses
trophy case project
Cardinal Booster Club met
Monday, March 6, at the lone
High School library. Twelve
members were present.
Athletic Director Dean
Robinson brought price lists for
the trophy case the club hopes to
put in the cafeteria hallway.
Members decided not
to
purchase anything right away due
to uncertain school finances. A
committee was formed to plan
the project, which will proceed if
financing is available later. The
committee is Robinson, Del
LaRue, Jen McEUigott and
Laurel Cannon.
Robinson will check with
Kimmel Athletic regarding
having state championship flags
made for the gym. It was agreed
to also make flags honoring the
state academic awards that the
1998 girls' tennis team and the
2000 boys' basketball team
received.
The club received a bill from
L.R. Bums Electric for wiring
done for the hot tub and the new
coaches' room. Bums took $100
off his total bill as a donation to
the club.
The club paid the set-up charge
for the embroidery for the girls'
district polo shirts, which came
to $80.05. New Cardinal hats
have been ordered and will soon
be available. Two of the six
football jerseys the club bought
' for next season have already
been purchased by students.
t Robinson reported the new
scorers' table for lone has been
cut. Two new scoreboards,
donated by Pepsi, will soon be
installed. One of the old
scoreboards will be put in the
elementary gym.
Club members voted to have
state academic championship
signs placed on the outskirts of
town next to the state
championship
signs.
Joe
McEUigott and Jim Swanson will
oversee this project.
The club agreed to serve dinner
to the bikers racing in lone on
June 9. Total income from that
project should be $400. The club
will also have sport schedule
posters made again this year.
Robinson

that
enterprise.
At the April meeting, Monica
Swanson will report on the
possibility of selling t-shirts on
the 4th of July as the club has in
the past. Club president Debbie
Radie will have a sample
Cardinal logo available at that
meeting. The logo will be
available to embroider on items
purchased from Hood River
Apparel.
Jen McEUigott will talk to
yearbook advisor Kristy Crowell
about having donations to the
school included in the yearbook.
Donations this year were the
bleacher seats from the Lloyd
Morgan Memorial fund and the
drinking fountain from the class
of 2000.
Some changes were made in
the Cardinal Booster Club's
annual scholarship. The income
from the community calendars
will be used specifically for
scholarships. The scholarship
committee
will
award
scholarships
to
graduating
seniors at the discretion of the
committee. The committee may
select as many recipients as they
want and will decide yearly on
the dollar amount. This year
$600 is available. Committee
members this year are Jim
Swanson. Kerry Rietmann and
Jim Raible.
Track Coach Del LaRue is
recruiting help for the Tuesday,
March 28, meet at Umatilla. He
needs at least 20 adults to help
with timing races and field
events. The meet will begin at
3:30 p.m.. Anyone who can help
is asked to call LaRue at 422-
7468 by Saturday, March 25.
The next meeting of Cardinal
Booster Club will be Monday,
April 3, at the high school
library.
Training offered on wells,
septic tanks
Who is responsible for your
well water? You are.
Rural residents are usually
responsible for their own
drinking water and their waste
water disposal systems. Protect
you family's health, your
homestead investment, and
community's water resource with
proper care and maintenance.
OSU Extension Water Quality
educator Gail Andrews will
present a free evening program
sponsored by Lower Umatilla
Basin Groundwater Management
Committee. She will discuss
simple things people can do to
protect their well water and
septic system and point out risky
behaviors that may not have been
considered.
The training will be held
Wednesday, March 22, from 7-9
p.m. at HAREC (Hermiston
Argicultural
Research
and
Extension Center) in Hermiston,
1/2 mile south of the Hermiston
High School at 2121 S. 1st
Street.
Nitrate screening of well water
samples will be offered to those
attending. Nitrate is the most
common contaminant found in
well water in Oregon. For nitrate
screening, collect a sample
(about 1/4 cup) of well water in
a clean glass container and bring
it to the program.
