Lady Cards dealt heart-breaking one-point loss to Condon in state championship game
The lone Lady Cardinals were
dealt a heartbreaking loss in the
State 1A Championship game on
Saturday. March 4. The Condon
Blue Devils led the entire game
before defeating the Lady
Cardinals, 42-41.
The Blue Devils used a full
court press during the entire
game. lone was not shooting as
well from the field as their
previous tournament games and
Cardinals

Paul at state
had difficulty getting their free
throws in. The Lady Cardinals
shot only 35 percent at the line
compared to 51 percent m the
previous
games
of
the
tournament.

and Condon jumped out with a
four to zero lead in the beginning
of the game before lone was able
to get a shot to fall. Condon’s
Shannon Durfey pumped in six
points with the aid of teammates
Molly Durfey and Jennifer
Snyder for a 9-12 lead on the
Cardinals at the end of the first
quarter.
At the beginning of the second
quarter, Molly Durfey threw the
ball out on a bad pass for lone
possession. Camie Bumght
canned a basket to bring the
score within one point, 11-12.
Jennifer Snyder counterattacked
with two points to spread the
score to three points difference.
The Lady Cardinals were
successful in keeping Condon to
only six points for the quarter but
lone was only able to connect
with six points in the quarter as
well and, by halftime, the score
was lone, 15, Condon, 18.
Nikki McElligott made the first
basket in the second quarter,
bringing the Cardinals within one
point again. Nichole Jamieson,
Shannon Durfey and Jennifer
Snyder seemed to be hitting the
basket from all over the court for
a total of 13 points.
Camie Bumght hit a three
point slot with five and a half
minutes remaining in the third
quarter.

McElligott
dropped in 11 points for lone,
putting the Cardinals down by
two, 29-31.
Kristina Powell entered the
fourth quarter with two points to
tie the game at 31 points.
Shannon Durfey answered with
two baskets to pull away from
the Cardinals, 31-35. Camie
Bumght hit two baskets from the
three point region and then added
an additional four points for the
Cardinals for a total of 10 points
in the fourth quarter.
With only eight seconds left in
the game the score was lone, 41,

nabbed the ball from Condon

was unable to get the ball to fall.

McElligott led with 20 points,
Camie Bumght had 17 points
and Allison Halvorsen and

and had two steals. Bumght
brought down four rebounds and
grabbed two steals.
