into the summer program of The
National Youth Leadership
Forum on Medicine.
Danielle has chosen to pursue a
career in the field of medicine;
this is an opportunity for her to
study with and learn from some
of the nation's most distinguished
medical leaders and research
pioneers. She will be traveling
with many other outstanding
juniors and seniors from across
America
to
Boston,
Massachusetts June 18-28 for an
"extraordinary time of discovery
and mentorship," said a news
release. "They will be welcomed
at one of the country's most
prominent and technologically
advanced medical institutions.”
An account for this trip has
been opened at Klamath First
Federal Savings and Loan in
Heppner. Anyone who would

Cardinals
defeat state
champs
The lone l ady Cardinal varsity
team secured their first place
finish for the east side of the Big
Sky League by defeating the
defending 1A State Champion
Condon, 38-34, on the Blue
Devils' home court Friday,
February 5.
Nikki McElligott continued to
be a team leader by accumulating
18 points. McElligott canned two
buckets from the three-point
region, led the team with nine
rebounds, three blocked shots
and seven steals.
Camie Burnght added 12
points, six rebounds, two steals
and three assists to the team
effort.
lone led the Blue Devils by two
points at half time but Condon
came out in the third quarter to
add 15 points to their score and
held lone to six points.
At the beginning of the fourth
quarter lone trailed Condon. 23-
30, but Kristina Powell did an
excellent job of coming off the
bench for the Lady Cardinals.
Powell was responsible for
grabbing five rebounds and
blocking two shots, sparking the
Cardinal teams to a close, but
effective victory.
The Condon Blue Dev ils have

Cardinal boys fall to Dufur Rangers
The lone Varsity men couldn't
quite keep up with Dufur,
Saturday. February 5, losing to
the Rangers, 75-49.
Dufur had an excellent passing
game, was quick on the boards
and managed 15 total team
steals.

The lone junior varsity men
failed to overcome the Dufur
Rangers on Saturday, February 5,
at Dufur. losing the game, 51-43.
lone had a 15-point deficit, but
added 24 points in the second
half to close the lead to eight
points.
Adam McCabe played an
excellent game, adding 16 points,
dishing out two assists, leading
the team with 11 rebounds and
grabbing one Dufur ball.
Zac Fabian added 10 points,
two assists and had three steals.
Dylan Pettyjohn contributed
seven points and six rebounds.
Adam Neiffer aided the
Cardinals on the boards with five
rebounds. Dustin Haguewood
was vicious under the basket,
leading the team with three
blocked shot attempts and
brought down four rebounds.

Cardinal Varsity boys lose to Condon
The lone Cardinal Varsity men
had an exciting game against
Condon, Friday, February 4, but
lost to the Blue Devils. 68-63.
lone had a hard time getting the
ball to drop, allowing Condon 14
points before Mark McElligott
canned the first lone point. lone
trailed Condon, 8-18. at the first
quarter but outscored Condon in
the second quarter, 21-19,
trailing Condon by eight points,
29-37, at halftime.
At the end of the third quarter,
lone trailed 10 points behind
Condon but heated up the fourth
quarter by adding 19 points to
; close' the lead to five points.
