Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Brewer of Fossil announce the engagement of
their daughter. Annette Maria Brewer, to Mark David Moeller, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Moeller of Hermiston.
The bride-to-be is a 1994 graduate of Wheeler High School in Fossil
and a 1999 graduate of Eastern Oregon University with a master's
degree in teacher's education. She is currently employed by the
Chenowith School District in The Dalles as a third grade teacher.
The groom-to-be is a 1995 graduate of Heppner High School and a
1999 graduate of Eastern Oregon University with a bachelor's degree
in biology He is currently employed by the U.S. Forest Service in
LaGrande, Oregon.
The couple is planning a June. 2000, wedding in The Dalles, Oregon.

Ninety-six people were present for the senior dinner Feb. 2 and 18
meals were home delivered. Members of the First Christian Church
served.
Blood pressures were taken before the meal and hearing aid
assistance was given. Irene Anhom and Dale Bates entertained with
* piano and guitar music at noon.
The menu for Feb. 16 will be ham and beans, carrots, fruit salad,
combread and Jell-O. Members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
‘ will serve.
After the exercise class Tuesday, Feb. 3. seven volunteers folded,
stapled, and put address labels on 4 H letters for the Extension Service.
Bingo was played Tuesday evening. Exercises were held Thursday
morning. Pinochle was played Tuesday and Friday afternoon, with two
tables in play Friday. The Heppner Greeters met at 1:30 p.m. Friday to
finalize plans for greeting new residents to Heppner. Anyone who has
any suggestions for using the big bus-trips they would like to take
should attend the Morrow County Special Transportation meeting
Friday, Feb. 11, at 9 a.m., upstairs over the Coast to Coast store.
Remember the Gala Valentine dinner at the Senior Center Feb. 14. Call
676-5312 for reservations by Feb. 11.
The seniors extend congratulations to Archie and Jeanette Padberg
on their 50 years of marriage and wish them many more happy years.
Our deepest sympathy is with Margie Ball on the death of her sister.

Singspiration slated Sunday
The community Singspiration
for this month will be Sunday,
Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. at Christian
Life Center.
Members will sing a choice of
choruses and hymns, along with
special numbers from members
of the community.
Refreshments will be served
following the Singspiration.

A conservation poster contest
sponsored by the Morrow Soil
and Water Conservation District
was held recently for Morrow
County students. The theme of
this year's contest was "In The
Children's Hands."
"The contest provides students
with an opportunity to share their
thoughts about soil, water and
related natural resource issues,"
said a district spokesperson.
The winners for the fourth
grade were Anna Unruh, first
place; Andre Rauch, second
place; and J.D. Drew, third place.
The winners of the fifth and sixth
grades were Drew Prindle, first
place; Brenda Victorio, second
place; and Heather Yocom, third
place. Ninth grade winner was
Meaghan Unruh, first place; and
10th grade winner was Emily

MCGG to hold
growers meeting
The Morrow County Gram
Growers Agronomy Dept, will
have their winter growers
meeting Wednesday, Feb. 16. at
the Willows Grange Hall in lone.
The meeting will start with
coffee and doughnuts at 7:30
a.m., followed by the first
presentation at 8 a.m.
Lunch will be provided at
12:30 p.m. with the conclusion of
the meeting.
Local representatives from
Morrow County Weed Control
District and Wheatland Insurance
will give presentations as well as
representatives from AgriCheck
ag testing labs, Novartis, BASF
and Monsanto. Products and
label updates will be topics of
discussion along with a wheat
fertility nutrient management
program.

Assisted living seeks funding
Representatives, of the Willow
Creek Valley Assisted T.rvmg
project met on Jan. 26 with the
USDA Rural Housing specialist.
Don Hollis, and state architect.
Sam Hall. Also in attendance
were Jim Rippy, consultant to the
project, and representatives of
local lending institutions.
The WCVAL Board of
Directors has requested a rural-
housing loan of $680,000 from
the
U.S.
Department
of
Agriculture and now awaits a
decision from that agency. The
estimated cost of the assisted-
living project is $940.000. To
complete the funding of the
project. WCVAL is applying for
bank loans totalling $170.000
and must raise $90,000 through
private donations.
On Main Street near the Shoe
Box store, the "thermometer."
presently reading $35,000. will
reflect the progress of the drive
for private donations. Individuals
who wish to donate toward the
building of the assisted fixing
facility may do so by sending
their support to "WCVAL" at
Box 244 in Heppner. Should they
wish, they may donate with the
proviso that their donations be
refunded if the project does not
go forward.
Another means of donating
provided by the Central Red
Apple through a collection box
for grocery receipts. Ceptral
Market will contribute a
percentage of the value of the
deposited receipts.
By St. Patrick's Day weekend
in Heppner. the WCVAL Board
plans to begin sales of bricks to
interested
supporters.
The
inscribed bricks will be displayed
as a prominent feature of the
assisted living facility.
As developments occur in this
project, the board says it will
continue to provide information
to the community.
