Cardinals defeat Echo
Lady Cardinals easily
defeat Central Christian
The Lady Cardinal varsity
squad easily defeated Central
Christian, 83-22, on Tuesday,
January 18. at home.
lone jumped way ahead of their
opponent in the first half, leading
the central Oregon team, 37-16.
Central Christian was only able
to score an additional six points
in the second half while the Lady
Cardinals gained an additional 46
points by the end of the game.
Allison Halvorsen led the
Lady Cardinals with 17 points,
while senior Brandi Brantley
scored 13 points, shooting 75
percent from the tree throw line.
Brantley also added
five
rebounds and four steals to her
arsenal.
Amellia Peck scored 12 points
and grabbed seven rebounds.
Peck handed out four assists and
aided the lone squad's larceny by
grabbing five steals. Nikki
McElligott nabbed five steals and
dished out six assists to her
teammates.
Shelby Krebs was the leading
rebounder with eight rebounds.
Krebs also blocked two Central
Christian shots and contributed
10 points to the Cardinal effort.

The lone Pee Wee boys basketball team
Cardinals boys varsity
loses to Cascade Locks
The lone boys varsity lost to
Cascade Locks, 58-63, in lone
January 21.
The first half of the game was
tight, ending with lone, 24.
Cascade Locks 26.
The second half was just as
close as the first, but the Pirates
again outscored the Cardinals.
Korey Morgan scored 18
points, which included a three-
point bucket in the fourth

one three-point shot in the fourth
quarter as well. McElligott also
captured nine rebounds and
blocked one Pirate attempt.
Brad Burright fought a tough
contest, contributing 11 points,
13 rebounds, three steals and two
blocked shots. Cory Bennetto
was also a tough force on the
boards, bringing down 10
unanswered attempts at the
bucket.
Lady Cardinals continue
winning streak
The Lady Cardinal varsity team
continued their winning streak
with a win over the Cascade
Locks Pirates on January 21, 64-
25.
Nikki McElligott tallied 23
points, shot 67 percent at the free
throw line, confiscated 19
rebounds; raided five steals and
handed out six assists to her
teammates.

The Pee Wee girls basketball team shows its stuff
13 points and continues to step
up the level of her play.
Halvorsen shot 100 percent from
the three-point territory, canning
three buckets launched from the
three-point line.
Brandi Brantley scored 10
points, grabbed eight rebounds
and handed out two assists.
Shelby Krebs grabbed three
steals and Kristina Powell aided
the lone effort at the boards,
grabbing six rebounds.

Cami Burright goes for two of her 17 points against Echo
lone hosted the Echo Cougars
on January 22 and was
victorious on all accounts,
defeating the Cougars in four
games.
The Lady Cardinal JV team
defeated the Cougars, 49-20.
Diana McElligott led the
Cardinals with 10 points and
grabbed six rehounds. Nonnee
Walters was the co-conspirator
with
nine
points.
Olivia
Thompson contributed six points
and seven steals.
Tracy Griffith continues to
improve her level of play, adding
six points to the Cardinal effort.
Jennifer Thompson and Salli
McElligott each grabbed five
steals. Jennifer Thompson also
blocked two Cougar snot
attempts, while Salli McElligott
contributed five points to the
Cardinal score and handed out
five assists to her teammates.
The leader on the boards for
lone was Jeanette Brantley, who
brought down seven rebounds.
The lone JV men defeated
Echo. 60-34 Adam Neiffer was
the lead scorer for lone with 14
points. Neiffer also seized six
steals from the Cougars.
Jeremy Rietmann contributed
13 points and blocked one
attempt by Echo for a two-point
basket.
Dustm Haguewood and Zac
Fabian each provided 11 points
to the Cardinal cause Dylan
Pettyjohn added seven points.

Adam McCabe led the team in
defensive rebounds, grabbed two
steals and shot 100 percent from
the free throw line.

The Lady Cardinal Varsity
team totally dominated the
Cougars, defeating Echo 64-20.
Camie Burright unleashed 17
points and supplied five assists
for

Cardinals.
Nikki
McElligott contributed 14 points
and was very effective under the
basket capturing 14 rebounds for
the lone team.
Allison Halvorsen led the Lady
Cardinals in team assists and
Brandi Brantley came to the aid
of McElligott on the boards with
four rebounds.
The lone varsity men defeated
Echo 43-35
Echo struggled to get a lead on
lone but Mark McElligott
wouldn't allow it. McElligott
canned three three-point shots to
delay the Cougars. McElligott
scored 18 points, captured six
rebounds and handed out three
assists.
Korey Morgan and David
Mansfeld each added seven
points to the Iqne score. Morgan
and Mansfeld each launched a
successful missile from the three-
point territory in the first quarter.

The Cardinal Booster Club, at
their January 3 meeting,
evaluated December tournaments
at lone High School.
According to club members, the
hospitality rooms were well
received by coaches and referees,
however, it was suggested that
they be moved closer to the
kitchen next year, perhaps to the
music room.
Wheatland Insurance and
Beecher's Cafe sponsored the
hospitality room for the lone
Basketball Bonanza. The Bank of
Eastern Oregon joined the others
to sponsor the hospitality room
for the South Morrow County
Tournament.
Members voted to do away
with the sportsmanship trophies
for the Basketball Bonanza. It
was agreed the tournament was
too short, the crowds too small
for some teams and there were
too many different referees to
pick winning teams.
The club will not sponsor an
alumni golf tournament due to
the work involved and no one
coming forward to be in charge.
It was agreed members would
be interested in helping with the
bike race as a fund raiser. Charity
McElligott will contact the race
organizers and report back to the
club.
The new detachable team
bleacher seat cushions were paid
for by money from the Lloyd
Morgan
Memorial
Fund.
Members discussed ways to
acknowledge donations to the
school.
It was suggested
donations be printed in the
basketball programs and listed in
the yearbook each year.
The club will sponsor a sports
trivia contest at home games.
Winners will receive a hot dog
and soft drink.
Members agreed to sell pizza
slices and salad at the Condon
game Saturday, January 8.
Donations to the club in the
past month included: a quilt to
raffle made by Loa Henderson;
cases of bottled water from Janet
and Dennis Stefam; a cash
donation from Virginia and Lyle
Peck; sponsorship of the
tournament hospitality rooms by
Wheatland Insurance, Beecher's
Cafe and the Bank of Eastern
Oregon; and the bleacher seat
cushions by the Lloyd Morgan
Memorial Fund.
The next meeting of the
Cardinal Booster Club will be
Monday, February 7, at 7 p.m. at
the high school library.

lone's "C" team men lost to
Umatilla, 37-54, January 18..
Richard Campbell led the
Cardinal effort with 16 points
and captured three steals.
Andrew Rietmann scored eight
points and brought down six
rebounds.
Coach Jim Swanson was
pleased with the level of play.
"The lone men played good
defense on a tough team.
Umatilla took over the offensive
rebounds and that hurt us," said
Swanson.'

Inexperience plagued Central
Christian before they fell to the
Cardinals, 60-5.
Four lone team members led
the Cardinal crusade. Diana
McElligott, Nonnee Walters,
Olivia Thompson and Sheena
Christman scored eight points
shots. Cayle Krebs added five
points while Colin McElligott
and Mike Radie hit the boards,
grabbing four rebounds each.
Coach Swanson said that' the
lone men played hard but had too
many turnovers and didn't get
enough shots off.
