Mustangs 2nd in district, clinch state berth
Mustangs show second place trophy at district tournament
Poor serving, which has
plagued the Heppner Varsity
Volleyball team off and on all
season, lead to their defeat by the
Sherman County Huskies at the
Columbia Basin Conference
playoffs held Saturday,
November 6, at Weston-
McEwen. The Mustangs lost to
the Huskies, now number one in
the league, 3-15,6-15.
The Mustangs rebounded for a
resounding win over the Weston-
McEwen Tigerscots, 15-8, 15-8,
edging the Tigerscots out of the
CBC number two spot and
clinching a trip to the state
volleyball tournament set for this
weekend, November 11-13, at
Lane Community College at
Eugene. This is the third year in
a row the Mustang team has
made an appearance at the state
toumey. Last year the Mustangs
ended up fifth place at state.
The Mustangs' first state game
will be Thursday, November 11,
at 2 p.m. vs. Delphian, the first
place team in District 2.
If the Heppner girls win their
first game, they will play the
winner of the Oakland vs.
Enterprise game Friday at 11
a.m. If they lose, they will play
the loser of the Oakland-
Enterprise game at 8 a.m. Friday.
Oakland is the second place
team in District 5. Enterprise is
the first place team in District 8.
The Mustangs were successful
on only 74 percent of their serves
against Sherman County and
connected on only 71 percent of
their receives.
Ashley Ropp made 6-7 serves
for 85 percent; Casey Ingraham
5-6 for 83 percent; and Kim
Pointer 4-5 for 80 percent.
Ropp, Ingraham, Allison Sykes
(3-4 serving for 75 percent) and
Stephanie Clough (2-3. serving
for 66 percent) each contributed
two serving points apiece.
Pointer and Amy Papineau (3-5
serving for 60 percent) each
chipped in one.
Two Mustangs, Katie Shemtt
and Abby Kahl, had 100 percent
serving with one each.
Pointer made 9-10 attacks, two
kills, two dinks and 7-12 receives
for 70 percent.. Ingraham made
5-6 attacks, one kill, six dinks
and 6-8 receives for 80 percent.
Amy Drake made 5-7 attacks and
four dinks. Ropp and Shemtt,
each with two receives, and
Trisha Adams and Leah Denton,
each with one, all had 100
percent receiving. Ropp also had
two dmks. Clough had 3-7
receiving for 63 percent and
Sykes, 2-5 for 62 percent.
Both the Mustang serving and
receiving improved in their
match against Weston-McEwen.
The Mustang girls served 80
percent and received at 90
percent.
Kim Pointer made 10-13 serves
for 76 percent and lead the team
with nine ooints. C a sev
Ingraham, 8-10 serves, had 80
percent serving and made six
points for the team. Ashley Ropp,
successful in 8-9 serves, had 88
percent serving with five points.
Amy Papineau was 100 percent
at the service line with eight
serves and four service points.
Trisha Adams was 5-8 at the
serving line (62 percent), making
three points. Allison Sykes, 4-6
serving (66 percent), made two
points. Macy Rhea, who made
the final point in the game, was
100 percent at the serving line, as
was Stephanie Clough, also 1-1.
Pointer made 20-22 attacks,
five kills, three dinks and
received at 85 percent (14-17).
Ingraham was 13-17 in attacks,
made seven kills, four dmks and
was 6-9 in receiving for 75
percent. Amy Drake made 10
attacks and two kills Adams
made four attacks and three
dmks. Ropp made three attacks,
three dinks and was 100 percent
in receiving with one. Sykes
made 4-5 receives for 83 percent.
Stephanie Clough had 80 percent
receiving, making 3-4. She also
made one attack. Amy Papineau
made 6-7 attacks, two kills, and
received 1-2 for 66 percent.

HHS volleyball team beats Stanfield
The HHS Varsity Volleyball
team beat the Stanfield Tigers in
two games October 28, 15-12,

Ashley Ropp made nine points
for the team. Ropp, 92 percent at
the serving line, made 12-13
serves. She also made four
attacks, two kills, three dmks,
one block and was 2-3 in
receiving for 75 percent.
Katie Shemtt, 6-7 at the serving
line for 85 percent, made four
points for the team. She also
made three attacks, two dinks
and was 4-5 in receiving for 83
percent.
Casey Ingraham also made four
points for the Mustangs and was
5-7 at the serving line. She also
made four attacks, two kills, one
dink and was 6-7 in receiving for
87 percent.
Macy Rhea (4-4 serving) and
Kim Pointer (5-7 serving) each
chipped in three points. Abby
Kahl (4-4 serving) and Amy
Papineau
(4-6 serving)
contributed two points apiece;
and Allison Sykes (3-4
serving),Tracy Rankin (2-2) and
Trisha Adams (2-4) each added
one point.
Leah Denton (1-1) was also
100 percent at the serving line.
Pointer was 5-6 receiving for
85 percent. She also made 16
attacks, six kills and one block.
Stephanie Clough, Sykes and
Papineau were all 4-5 receiving
for 83 percent. Clough also made
two attacks and two kills.
Papineau made 7-8 attacks,
three kills, two dinks and three
blocks. Adams also made 7-8
attacks, two kills and four dinks.
Amy Drake made six attacks,
two kills, three dinks and one
block.

serving points for the team as did
Kim Pointer with 4-6 serving.
Amy Papineau (4-4 serving) and

each scored three points; Katie
Shemtt (4-4 serving), two; and
Stephanie Clough (2-2) and
Allison Sykes (1-2), each one.
Pointer made 10 successful
attacks for the Mustangs and had
three kills and two dinks. She
was also 100 percent in receiving
with eight.
Five other Mustangs also had
100 percent receiving-Sykes with
four, Sherritt with three, Clough,
two. and Ingraham, one.
Ingraham made three blocks
and Papineau, one.
