Varsity Volleyball team beat
Condon in two games. 15-9 and
15-11, Thursday. Sept 16. in
Condon
In all. the Heppner team did a
great job serving, w ith a total of
94 percent with several players
serving 100 percent Those
players were Kim Pointer,
10/10, Tnsh Adams, 6/6, Abby
Kahl. 11/11, and Stephanie
Clough. 7/7
Kim Pointer also had eight
kills, Casey Ingraham had
seven and Amy Drake had four
kills

Sept 17. Their next game will
be a JV/C-team tournament at
Heppner on Saturday, Sept. 25,
beginning at 9 a m.
The C-team also competed at
Condon and lone and at the
LaGrande tournament. Their
next game will be the JV/C-
team tournament in Heppner on
Sept 25.

of my time last year and unfortu
nately cannon help organize for the
"Haunted House" this year. My
responsibility is to plan and gather
as many volunteers as I can to
help Leah Brosnan She needs

up in y our most ghoulish costume.

nize a thing Any time you can
spend helping w ould mean a great
deal, because 1 know everyone's
tune is perishable.

Heppner display prepared to urge
Cycle Oregon to again return to
Heppner At 4 a m September 13.
alarms went off in Heppner and
Ukiah reminding 16 hearty
Chamber volunteers that this was
the day they had pledged to tout
Heppner to 2200 cyclists
At 6:30 a m , 23 miles out on the
Ukiah/Gramte road Irish flags
were flying; two leprechauns
(Doris Brosnan and Raymond
French) were ready to applaud
cyclists into camp and pose for
photos; Cliff Green. Jerry
Brea/eale and Bob Kahl were
unloading 300 pounds of ice
donated by Morrow County Grain
Growers C-Store The rainbow
and pot of gold hauled up by Tom
Wolff were put in place and Insh
music cranked up to high volume
on the boom box.

and Dan Brosnan hoisted up the
St. Patrick's Day banner, put up
tents, set the tables, filled the
trough with ice and drinks, and
followed the instructions to open
144 boxes, slice bagels and 1000
bananas Total food distribution
included: All Sport, peanuts,
raisins, “clif bars", cream cheese,
peanut butter, honey. bananas and
bagels Lives were in danger when
"cliff bars were gone at 9 a m

provided much needed extra
hands, when 300 arrived together,
and assisted with camp clean-up
All the abov e mentioned hearty
souls, always wearing smiles and
sharing a good word about
Heppner. put in long hours from 4
a m until 4 p m I'm reliev ed they
didn't leave me hanging on a tree
with an Irish flag when the
surprise of the day was that we
were responsible for the three
pickup loads of boxes, bottles and
trash generated by 2200 cy clists
They came through with fly ing
colors: we got it all in and back to
Heppner where the senior class
took over the bottle project
Brosnans. Hughes, Slys. and
Balls helped serv e dinner in Ukiah
the prev ious evening
Many
of the exhausted cy clists took time
to tell us how much they
appreciated the Insh theme,
display, costumes, and friendly
people from Heppner As usual,
the Chamber can be proud of the
Heppner volunteers, who drove
many miles and put in long hours
for our community and the
Chamber 1 think they had fun but

Grade) now open
Notice to the citizens who
utilize and enjoy the Willow
C reek (Coal Mine Grade) area,
the Willow Creek Road (Coal
Mine Grade) is now open to all
traffic.
The U.S. Dept, of Trans
portation lists its planned
construction activities on Willow
Creek Road for the week of
Monday, Sept. 20.
Tidewater completed the Willow
Creek Road (Coal Mine Grade)
on Sunday. Sept. 19. On Sunday,
paint striping was completed and
and final inspection was done on
Monday, Sept. 20. Tidewater will
be working the week of Sept. 20,
grading and adding rock to the
Shaw Creek Grade to get the road
in repair and ready for traffic use.
There will be some blading and
adding of aggregate on the FS 21
Road (Penland Lake Road)during
the first portion of the week, so
observe the flaggers and watch for
traffic.
The only traffic that should be
on the Shaw Creek Grade (detour
route) will be those individuals
that choose to travel the route.
Tidewater will return to seed
the cut and fill slopes during the
first 15 days of October so at that
time there will or could be some
traffic delays with flaggers. The
road will remain open for all
traffic during that time.
Cutsforth Park is open through
the normal camping season. Shaw
Creek Road is and will remain
open to all traffic.

The Heppner Colts began the
defense o f their 1998 Grid Kids
Championship by defeating the
Kiwanis team from Hermiston,
12-0. in a game played Wednes
day, Sept 15, at the rodeo
grounds
The Colts got on the board in
the first quarter as J C Sherntt
kept the ball on a bootleg around
end for a 33 y ard touchdown run
The kick failed and the Colts led
6-0 after one
In the second quarter. Sherntt
fielded a punt over his head and.
getting a nice block from Kyle
Carlson, raced up the sideline un
touched for a 65 yard touchdown
The extra point try was no good
and the Colts led 12-0 midway
